67' Epiphone Embassy Deluxe

I found someone selling an "unknown Kyrgyzstan bass" for $60. Turns out it is a 1967 Epiphone Embassy Deluxe with a replaced headstock. I just need to decide what to do about that awful headstock job. I'd love to recreate the original batwing, but I can't find the measurements.
Anyone have one they can pull some sizes from?

To address your question, Epi Embassies are hard to find. You may have to contact a vintage dealer that has one. Or see if an Epiphone Newport headstock will suffice.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll start searching.
Here are some more pics. To me, it looks like the headstock had a typical Gibson-like break. Unfortunately one of the previous owners must have thought that the original headstock was worthless and tossed it away.
I'll be seeng a luthier Tuesday to see what he recommends.

I don't have the skills myself, but I know a few good luthiers. And it won't devalue the bass more than it already is. Only question is how much will it cost. This bass wasn't really a plan on my tight budget, but for $60 I would lose money NOT buying it!

Go ask at The Last Bass Outpost, Gibson Forum...several Embassy owners there who would probably gladly send you pics or tracings of their Embassy headstocks....find some reverse Kluson tuners to go with it and put your luthier to work....what a great find for $60!!!!!

I think this sets the new standard for 'frankenbass'.... Never seen a repair quite like that before, They were even less skilled then when I bought a Kent hollow body with the font ripped off and I nailed it back on....

Thank you, but Rochester is a bit of a drive for me. I plan to check with some local luthiers this week to see what they say.

A competent luthier should be able to put it back to stock specs. What a steal for $60! The pickups and bridgework alone are probably worth a grand. Old thread! Did you get it fixed, and do you still own it?
