7 string basses in now in 2013?

Correct. About 10.000 bucks.

The Warwick custom shop makes 'em. Probably not cheap, though:

My 2 cents: if you can live with the ultra-tight spacing then you better look for an used Conklin GT7BD, the Bill Dickens signature. I owned it, was nice but I hated the spacing.
Otherwise I'm afraid that going custom is your only choice.

A 6 string SB series is not happening, I spoke to Carvin about two weeks ago about such a model and was informed that there are no plans to build one.

That seems to be their standard line about things they aren't already making. In the past, they said the same thing about 8-string guitars, 24-fret carved top guitars, seven-string carved top guitars, and block inlays on maple fingerboards, among other things. And all these things ended up happening in due time.

Granted, an SB6000 seems like it's less likely to happen. But how many 8 string guitars are they selling? Would they really sell fewer SB6000s?

I honestly have no idea.

Pretty much every 7 I've ever played felt like a 6 with another 1-string instrument added on the top... nice, but struggled for continuity of tone across the neck.

The one biggest exception was a Mattisson bass at NAMM this year - http://www.mattissonbass.se/ - as played by Henrik from Dirty Loops. I think the 7 is his new signature bass, but I spent quite a while playing one at NAMM and was blown away. amazing instrument.

Just to add two to your list: I own a Bass Mods 7 string and the local bass shop had a Galveston 7 string a while back.
