Hi guys; I’d like to know if anyone ever ordered pickups from David.

I ordered mine on Jul 23, 2010 and every time I send and e mail he tells me that they should be on the way soon and it’s been 12 weeks already and I have no pickups.

So this is how it goes; I’ll copy and paste so you guys can see what happened.

On July 23 I made the payment, then on Wed 08/04/2010 I sent an e mail asking for my pups and he replied:

Hello,
They should ship within two weeks.
I’ll send you an email before I send them off
David

Then on 08-31-2010 after sending a couple of e mails I sent this:
Hi
I sent you an e mail asking about my pickups and I havent get an answer.
is there something wrong?
I ordered a MM stile and a long jazz for a carvin bass.

Virgilio

Hello, no, nothing is wrong. I am working on them currently and they should be on their way soon.
I'm just running behind schedule.
Thanks for your patience.
David

Hi
Do not worry if you are running behind schedule;
I`ll be out of town form Sep 4 to the 20. So even if you send them this week I won’t be home.
So I guess this will give you more time
If you want I can send you an e mail when I come back.
Cheers.
Virgilio

I’ve been sending you a few e mails and I never got an answer, so I’m starting to get the feeling that I’m not getting any pickups.
So would it be possible to know what is going on.

Thank you

Hello,
No, your pickups are just about finished. I have been running behind schedule, but I’m finishing the now.

I have listed on my website that there is a 3 week lead time, which has started to inch itself up to 4 weeks. It’s just me here, so I try and get the orders finished as quickly as possible and in the order I get them. But I do work on several sets at a time.
I’m getting ready to pour epoxy on your pickups, and a few other sets, so I’m anticipating them being in the mail on Friday or Saturday.
So hang in there... They are almost done. I’ll send you an email with the tracking number when they ship.
Thanks for being patient.
David

Hi sorry to be a pain but last time you said that my pups would ship last Friday or Saturday September 24th, 25th.
And I never got an e mail.
So by any chance did you ship them and forgot to send me an e mail or they are still not ready.
Thank you

I’ll be shipping them this week... Probably tomorrow or Wednesday.
I’ll send you an email with the tracking number.

Today
I sent an e mail and this is what I got

So am I overreacting?

Is it possible that I got ripped off?

David is a member here, and his pickups are quite popular with the TalkBass community.

I have not purchased a set of pickups from him, (yet:hyper:) but I have spoken with him on many occasions via PMs and a couple of IMs. He's a nice guy, and I would be extremely surprised to find out he was suddenly scamming people.

This ain't gonna end well...

FWIW, David's always seemed like a decent guy to me.

Also, I waited from early June, until late last month for a Nordstrand to be built for me, so this kind of wait isn't unheard of.

Dave is an active poster on these forums and has been always extremely helpful. I agree, the constant delays suck, but it's one of the problems you have to expect with a small-time operation like his.

In fact, he updated his website today. He might just be experiencing some email server issues. I'd wait for him to respond to you here.

Yes I know he is a member and people seem to like him, that's why I ordered but it's been way to long.
And he keeps telling me that they should ship soon, and weeks go by and I have no pups.

So I just wanted to clarify that I didn’t say that I got ripped off; but I think it is understandable that I should be concerned and upset.

And another thing I’d like to add is that I do not mind waiting 3, 4 or 6 months.
But if some one tells you that your stuff should be on its way for example this week and then weeks go by and you get nothing and no news, and you send an e mail and then you get a new shipping date and still waiting.

I didn’t start this thread to offend David, but wouldn’t you be concerned if you keep waiting and waiting and one day you send an e mail and the e mail address doesn’t work.

Man, that's the kind of thing that gets to me too...

I'm willing to wait a long long time for the right product, especially from a small shop that makes great stuff, but if the wait is promised to be two weeks, it had better be two weeks plus or minus a reasonable amount. That is not a reasonable amount. :rollno:

Scam, no. Inconsiderate, yes.

i agree. i think its unprofessional to tell someone you are going to ship something on a day later that week and then we find out weeks later he still hasnt shipped it. its unprofessional, rude and very bad customer service. i would not tolerate it, no matter how great his pickups were. i would want my money back or a extra pair of pickups free of charge.
