I understand your concern, but I don't think posting a thread with this title is the right way to go about it. I would have tried and contacted him via other means.

I agree.

Considering that the email address the OP was using to contact David was no longer valid, I think it would have been a much more appropriate course of action to go about contacting him via PM, phone, on MySpace or on FaceBook before resorting to posting a thread that is potentially harmful to his business.

I don't think this thread would be too harmful. He did say in the OP that he was thinking that he had gotten scammed so the title is accurate. However, when he does get everything straightened out I think he should come in and edit the OP and post how everything worked out for his favor.

I agree that the thread should stay open. So we all know how this works out! I am sure that you will get what your pups. When you do, you have to post pics, and a sound clip. As well as starting a post with a title like "these pups were worth the wait" or "these things are great!!"

When a man does quality work he gets a LOT of orders.:D This delay should do nothing but make you feel secure about what you are going to be getting soon.:bassist:

Yep.

David's a busy guy, he has many orders to work on.
I have been waiting for him to work on his split coil P pickup designs for over a year now. You've got to be patient when you are dealing with a business of handmade pickups ran by one man.

From 2 Weeks ... to 2 Months and even more. I would complain.
There is a big difference between 2 weeks and 10 weeks. (EIGHT WEEKS)

Scam: Nah.

yes I'd like to post something good about the pups but right now i'm not feeling to good about the title of this tread and i'd like to apologize to David.

so hope nothing goes wrong

Yes, I think it's a good idea you wrote this. He does seem like a nice gentleman. For what it's worth, I'm waiting 18 months for a custom bass that was supposed to take 12 months...so 12 weeks isn't that bad in comparison. It's all about context, right? :D

Note to anyone reading :
If you're the impatient kind, do not make custom orders.
If it's for music related gear, do not EVER EVER make custom orders.
Just give whoever you hire the time he needs to work and do not expect the former delay to be respected.
As far as I can tell, this isn't about the OP being impatient...he's been very patient for the past 12+ weeks. The issue is a lack of communication and inaccurate info when there was communication. I don't think there is anything wrong with this thread or that the OP's concerns are premature. I also think Dave/SDG is a stand up guy from what ive seen here on TB and that he'll come through, do the right thing and squash this before it gets out of hand....unlike some other vendors here on TB who will remain nameless.

I agree that it's fine to wait a long time for custom work or anything built to spec. i don't think it's good for a business to not have an accurate handle on wait times and to not communicate clearly what actual wait times will be. Saying they will go out in a couple days and not following through with that is pretty frustrating. And just stating business kind of suggests your work keeps getting pushed back for other stuff, which isn't a nice feeling either. I'd be pretty upset if I were you. These days when there are so many choices smaller businesses have to work harder to provide good customer service.
