Good points made by every body here! I would just like to add that I`d rather be given a over estimated time frame and then be nicely surprised when it shows up early rather than "hang on it`ll just be a sec!" and it takes forever. But I understand that approach might not be the best for a business.
"Don`t worry buddy! That oil change will only take 4 hours!"

"Hey! Look at that! It only took half an hour! Must be your lucky day!"

It's the combination of shipping delays and communication.

As far as the OP's patience goes, there is a big difference between simply being impatient about when the order will ship, and being told that your order is almost done and will be shipped shortly, then finding out it has still not shipped by the date you were told that it would be shipped.

I would not kiss this guys ass. He told you 3 or 4 weeks --led you on about shipping --- it's months later---you email and he doesn't reply--- everybody says he's a nice guy--- big woop---Personally I would be upset about it. He must have a whole ton of pickups to do for him to go from 3 to 4 weeks to 3 or 4 months. I have a little experiance in building pickups. I don't think it takes more than a couple days to actually build one UNLESS you are waiting on someone to ship you magnets and whatnot. That could be the case too. I don't know why he just doesn't tell you exactly what's up. If his email was closed-- that is not good as far as I'm concerned. I think I would be pissed off by now. You are showing a good attitude about it. I hope you get your stuff.

There was a bit of extra delay on the pickup that I ordered, too... however it was not three months, and David didn't say anything like "It's almost done" or "I should be shipping them tomorrow" or anything like that. So I was not misled, and the delay was acceptable, knowing it was a handmade product.

If he had said "check's in the mail" to me several times over a period of three months, I would have felt scammed too. So I sympathize with the OP in that regard.

Exactly-- I couldn't understand any other take on the subject. It seemed like the guy felt guilty about the whole deal. He shouldn't -- he's been nice about it and then can't even contact the guy. Oh boy......

I have an SGD pup in my bass. David epoxied a dc in a yellowheart cover I made. He was pretty quick from what I remember. That was less than a year ago.
I liked it so much I just sent him 2 wooden covers for pups to be epoxied into. I have many e-mails back and forth with him. He's very cool, but the guy works for a living and like was said above, he's a one man show so if he gets backed up...yeah, you could be upset, but I think you will be happy in the end.
No way is he scammin ya. I don't think he would give me his adress and # when I live an hour away if he was scammin people at all. Nope. He's for real. :)

Hello all...

OK the pickups in question really are about finished and should be on their way in the next few days. Due to a few technical issues I had, some orders ahead of these got way backed up, and then things snowballed from there. I actually just sent out a set that was ordered back at the end of June. I don't like things being that far behind, and I am working at getting orders filled faster.

Unlike Bartolini, and even a few other boutique winders, I have no employees, it's just me. Another thing is even though I have been making pickups full time for the past two years (part time before that) I've had to take on some freelance graphic work to make ends meet. So I've been getting up at 6 am and to bed at 1 am every day for the past month. :hmm:

I'm not making excuses, but as more orders came in I realized I need to have certain things in place to speed up the process. So I think I have that working better now.

But I'm back on track and all the backed up orders should be finished soon.

My apologies to anyone who has been waiting for pickups.

Here's some of the stuff that happens when you just want to fill pickup orders; I started using a new epoxy, and the first batch was great, and the next two don't totally cure in spots. Then I have to remake all the effected pickups... Then all that rewinding, and I run out of wire... Then I have a luthier I make OEM pickups for, and he uses rubber molds, and the molds fail because of a bad release agent... so time to make new molds ($100 just for the rubber).

I'm not complaining.. but I'd like these mishaps to be spaced farther apart, please. :D

So yeah, I'm an honest person making what I think are really good pickups. I use them anyway. :)

But I am making an effort to get things back on tracks and not get bogged down again. :bassist:

Oh yeah, and I have a five year old little girl with a lot of energy! ... :help:

With the problems with Electronix and Dr Bass, I think it's wise to be vigilant. I don't know if anyone's done a tally, but it seems like Dr Bass ran off with more money from talkbass members than most households earn in a year.

Talkbass is great for spreading news about great resources that you'd not otherwise learn about (Darkstars, SGD, loads of effects makers, small shop luthiers, etc.). I don't need talkbass to learn about Seymour Duncan or Ibanez. But I do to learn about SGD, Wishbass, Barefaced Cabs, and the like.

As a community we do need to be careful... We have a lot of GAS-fueled pump and bump of favored products. In any of the company-turned-trainwreck scenarios, someone was the first person who got bad service, but it seems the line of victims kept getting longer for some time.

A thread like this, if everything goes as it's s'posed to, we get the answer from Mr Schwab :cool: and next week we'll get the OP cheering about the awesome tone. But if it really were a trainwreck in the making, get the word out is good. Especially like this one, it's not innuendo or hyperbole... it's actual emails with a timeline. I didn't see the original thread title. The tone of the posts is reasonable.

That sucks to hear about the epoxy and after running out of wire.
It happens some times that things go wrong and after it is one thing after another.

I was going to close the thread, but some tbers suggested that I leave it open so I can post some pictures sound samples and talk about how great those pups are.

So I’ll leave it open till then

Hang in there....David is a good dude. I've done business with him and he was great merchant to me. I will soon do more business with him, as soon as his Jazz bass Side/Pluswinders are ready to go.
