'70s Fender Precision love

Here's my 1978 Precision that I bought new at a local music store. It was my third electric bass I still have it.

...and a photo of me playing it in 1983. I guess that building couldn't take the vibration. :)

Is there any way to tell it's an A neck just by looking at pictures? Or does the nut width have to be measured every time?
I have to measure or play the instrument. In the early 70's there are also some B necks that are between A & B. The Nate Mendel signature was modeled after such a bass.

btw the original body to that '74 rosewood A-neck had a beautiful custom-ordered semi-transparent blond finish with a phototort pickguard. Few years ago someone stripped the whole bass and parted it out on ebay (facepalm..). At the time I could only afford to buy the neck and tuners. Such a shame.
