916 Pickups Club

Options for using your factory EB chrome cover with 916 Neo EB0

Screws are non functional as far as sound , they actually hold the pickup together. These fit 48mm covers. Custom string space available if needed

Beautiful work once again!

You may already know this, but there are some aftermarket mudbuckers with pole spacing a bit wider than the original Gibson spec. I had an Artec (I think) that was closer to Fender spec than Gibson spec. I would hate for you to build a pickup and then discover it doesn’t fit a customer’s chrome cover!

Awesome! That’s exactly what I was hoping for. To the point of screw spacing on the covers, what’s the best way to ensure proper fit? Send my cover in to you?

That would be the best way. There is no way to know what the spacing is for your cover. Foreign covers seem to be 48mm and U.S. is 1-7/8 but there is not a US cover in the shop. This is one of those pickups that it's hard to get a original , information on the originals and there are no reproduction parts.

Sending the intended cover is best as there will be no returns or refunds for improper string space selection. It takes to long to build these just to have returns pile up. This is a complete custom pickup outside the magnets and screws

Exactly , there will be no returns for improper string space selection. Sending in your existing cover would be best. The current cover we have here is 48mm. It's from True Custom , but I think it's a Korean pickup. My guess , and it's a guess is the offshore pickups are 48mm and the Gibson stuff is 1-7/8

After taking part in a forum discussion about 70s P bass pickups I saw that if any there are very few of the rare/odd Alnico 3 versions available. All the 70s P I saw were A5. With A3 being the weakest of the alnicos I figured some more poles would be a good thing so this was whipped up last night after a bit of cad and laser work. Calling these pickups "Heavy 70s". Six A3 rods wound with Plain Enamel this set came out to 10.47k. U.S. lead wire matches the wire used in the 70s. Covered in solid top P bass covers with laser cut holes for the custom design.

@PeaveyPlayer...time to join the club?

absolutely!
So far it’s been a night and day difference much more meatier sounding I haven’t dialed in my pickup height yet as My pick up or else we’re kind of tight and I had to do a ghetto job of trying to make it Fit

The old pickup we’re kind of tight and I had to do a ghetto job of trying to make it fit so I need to sand some more but

overall the pickupups are super quiet in terms of RF noise or anything else

hum is super minimal!!!!

Overall the highs are very present but not in a super glassy hifi way more of a it has a lot of presence not trebly frequency I’ll put it that way

The high mids and low mids are very much balanced
And the lows have a lot of girth and fill!

This is probably due to my pick up placement and spacing on my peavey USA GRIND 5 body
Also paired with an Emg preamp and 500K pots

The bridge pickup itself it’s not super “plucky” or burpy

and the neck pickup is very round sounding

I’ll see if I can dial it in more and upload sound clips!

Do you have pics of the Grind with the 916s in it? I’m dying to see what this bass looks like! :bassist:
