I'd love to hear the hi-beams on that Birdsong through the SFs. That sounds like an amazing tone!tried nickels, flats, and steels (hi-beams) on my Birdsong (newly enhanced with 916 super ferrites) ... they all sounded great in their own ways, but the steel just sang from the get-go, wonderful angry piano tone with everything dimed

I forgot to mention I bypass my Ashdown 300 EQ and use instead an Alien Audio Tidal Wave preamp pedal. Surely a component to the angry piano tone I mentioned, especially on the hifi rather than vintage setting.I'd love to hear the hi-beams on that Birdsong through the SFs. Man, I'm glad to hear you exist here in town. I am sorry to see that as part of me finding out about you is that you recently stepped back from crazy custom stuff. To whom it may concern.
Stepping back from doing custom / out of the norm bass pickups for a while. Also all SF pickups will be wax potted unless no wax is requested. If no wax is requested we will not be responsible for any microphonic or noise issues.

I'm proud to call Sacramento my adopted home. I'm always blown away by all the cool stuff going on in this town. Next time i get the itch for pickups I'll reach out.
Cheers!
Thanks! I'm coming up on 3 years here. I love that there's so much original music happening here. And the food scene is way too good to be healthy!Hello Jefus.
If you are new or newer to Sacramento and have any questions about good places to eat or anything else feel free to ask. I'm on the South side and been here since 77.
Just a few places to mention. Thanks! I'm coming up on 3 years here. I love that there's so much original music happening here. And the food scene is way too good to be healthy!

What sort of tone do you go for with Thunderbird pickups?Winding up a T Bird that will be factory except for the bobbins are made using the magnet with top and bottom being Vulcanex fiber. Factory style bobbins are not sold. The pickup is like a credit card , it's real thin. The coil is short so this is why factory they come in around 7.8k. people seem to enjoy the 10-11k area of #42 for bass. That's not going to happen with these coils. Going to try to get a 13k / #43 and see how that fits on the coil.
Going to test fit these in EMG35 to see if EMGTB can be a thing.View attachment 5400649
916 is a full custom shop , we make pickups to order. We can wind Factory copy to full custom. This pickup is to see what will fit going to a smaller wire than the factory #42awg. Trying to get a fatter tone like a 70s P bass or something along those lines working within the confines of the factory cover / baseplate. Designs with a steel blade or poles would make for a pickup that will not allow for a baseplate that can be soldered to the cover. What sort of tone do you go for with Thunderbird pickups?
Nice. One Thunderbird pickup that no one's yet made a replica of that people in the Thunderbird group seem to want is the sidewinder Bicentennial ones (1976-1979).916 is a full custom shop , we make pickups to order.
