A $500 Cat Scratching Post

I had the same issue as along with rest of the people here. I draped a sarong over it and no problem now. I havent tried the spray so the sarong was the best and easiest solution . Frustrating isnt it?

The nice thing about a sarong wrap is you don't have to remove it to use the amp, and you don't have to cover the grill.

It's possible that a brightly-patterened muu-muu would have more "mojo".

Why don't you put the cab in a room where the cat can't get to it, or, try this one, put in a room and close the door...

Have you tried giving him something else to scratch on? We have a new kitten that we decided not to get declawed, and I was also concerned with carpet, etc, getting torn to shreds.

I put a couple of these around the apartment:

And, she has never shown any interest in scratching my cabs. Honestly, apart from going after the bathmat once, she hasn't tried to scratch anything she wasn't supposed to.

Maybe by giving him an alternative, he'll go for it instead of the cab. Oh, and I find sprinkling catnip on it helps draw her to it, too.

Just buy some scratching posts. The kind made out of twine.
My cat loves them, and never scratches my cabs or furniture.

there is a spray you can get that will deter cats from clawing on something. along with a cat-nip-covered alternative like the cardboard scratchpad that bassmonkeee posted about, that should do the trick.

declawing cats removes the first knuckle off each of their "fingers".

Ideally, I'd like to stop the little bugger from scratching it in the first place. I think I'm going to have to resort to the water spray technique...

I'll be the third to recommend this solution. Correct his behavior, not work around it. My cat has command of most of my apartment, except the kitchen table and the computer table. A spray bottle makes him learn real quick.

Do NOT declaw the cat. How would you like it if someone amputated all your fingers at the first knuckle? That would be the equivalent in human terms. Declawing is a cruel, painful, ignorant form of mutilation...
