A bass only a mother could love.

Try some dark stain and tru oil and it will be gorgeous. Tru oil is super easy and looks (and smells) great. I never finished any wood before, never even took shop class, but was able to make a drum look incredible the first time with it.

Nah. I'm sure that'd look great , but I have it looking exactly like I want it.
:)

Remove the covers and go full Gary Thain.

I like it without the covers, but on this bass I actually prefer them on.

Cool bass in the pic . I'm not familiar with Gary Thain though, I guess I'll have to do a bit of googling .

I guess a father could too....since I'm the dad !

*B Hefner alder body
* Tonerider (I think) pickup
*CTS pots
*Switchcraft jack
*aged shellac finish
*GHS Roundcore Boomers

Yep.

I know how much you guys (and gals) like relics. That's ok, I like them, and that's what matters.

Some pics....

I love it. Looks just like mine (but better) until I had it painted black. Rare to see that control plate in the wild.

I like it, but before I put the small pickguard on itk, it looked...really plain and a bit cro magnon (not in a good way), like Fred Flinstone's bass or something. I have had a few unsolicited positive comments on it, although I think it's still a bit generic. Last year, Fender had a Custom Shop Artisan..something P that was not too far removed - I geuss maybe it's a small trend?

Very cool bass OP! I love how stripped down it looks, yet elegant and attractive at the same time. I almost think it'd look better without the Fender decal on the headstock, just to make it look that much more minimal, lol. The covers aren't my taste but they definitely add to the look. All in all well done!
