A big guy needs a big bass!

Greetings TB,

I'll keep this short. I started playing on a 5 string, but have moved back and forth between 4's and 5's for a while now. The last year or so has been only 4 strings. I've always thought my 4 bangers feel like toys in my hands, but that's just in my head. I saw a picture of me and my bass though and I realized, wow, I need to play bigger basses. :)

I've always loved playing 5's and I've had a couple of 6ers over the years that I LOVED but because I didn't solo or do a ton of chords, I felt that I was underutilizing them and because my playing is very meat and potatoes most of the time (what I play doesn't get overly fancy on bass) that I should play a 4 string. I decided recently though to go back with a 5 for a bigger neck (feels like home) and a bigger body (so i don't look like a giant). I then found this right here in the tb classifieds and I am awaiting its arrival!

Nice Yammy!

I got Brubaker Brute 5 for similar reasons. Being a bigger dude, I look like a dork playing a small bass (I don't care though, I still love my Streamer!). The Brute is just pure meat, nice wide neck, body that begs to be hugged tight, and balances perfectly. I tried a few 6ers but just couldn't deal with the narrow spacing. I need a full 19mm!

That is why you need a TRB6P.;)

To the OP, beautiful bass. I had one for a while, nice bass just rather heavy and I'm a big guy that likes heavy basses.

Nice bass, I've played one before and I'm a Yamaha fan in general. Myung is a nice guy as well (not that he says much :-), I've met him a few times after shows. Extremely humble considering his formidable technique.

If you ever decide that you want to stick with a 4 but still need a "bigger bass", check out Skip Fantry's Knuckle Quakes. They have extra long scales and appear to be larger than your average bear. Just food for though :-)

Thanks for all the comments guys.

quite the change from a passive jazz!

Go BIG or go home, right?

I don't care for the brubaker headstock, but I do like that it's a large bass. I am fine with anything from 17.5-20mm spacing though.

Thanks for the kind words man.

A big man needs a big bass...................Mothman.

:scowl:

Nice! What is that colour called ?

Not sure but it looks like a Trans Turquoise Blue? I'll research it.

Now you just need an RBXJM2 -- and a Music Man Bongo 6!

you know, i'm not a big fan of the RBXJM2. I'm not even sure I'd like a Bongo either.

I did not buy this bass because it was a Myung signature. I really don't listen to dream theater much at all. I bought it because the color is different and looks cool and i was wanting a 5/6 string bass. When I saw this one, I had to have it. I'm also a HUGE Yamaha fan.

Oh come on now! The headstock is the last thing you're thinking about when you're playing it :)

Besides, the carved Brubaker headstock is quite functional. It's short, so it balances better and you're not banging into stuff. It's tilted and carved so that there is proper downforce on the strings, eliminating the need for a string tree.
