A China Dilemma

There's a bass that interests me. I like it a lot but not gaga over it......My GAS for it is pretty low and I easily talk myself out if it......one of the biggest things that causes me to U Turn out of the store is that it's Made In China......with the exception of the pickups, bridge, and tuners, it pretty much has a look of any bass that can be found in AliExpress or DH GATE and I can't justify its 1000 price tag. I'd also rather spend the money on a USA business.... Am I being irrational? Thanks
Yes I would say you’re being irrational, especially since it’s 2022.

American guitar and bass companies like Epiphone, Squire, Gretsch and others have been having certain instruments in their catalog MIC for quite some time now and they’ve been discussed here on TB in multiple threads in great detail with many accolades.

It only seems to be an issue when it’s some lesser new kid on the block company when its an issue.

My best advice is try before you buy and put on the headstock blinders.

There's a big difference between buying something "Made in China"and ordered directly off a Chinese website.

The former is one we all do.
The later is dicey.

Yes, you're being irrational. It sounds as if you're buying a bass just to buy a bass. Why not just bank part of that money that seems to be burning a hole in your pocket and donate the rest to a worthy charity?

Looks like some model of a Warwick Rockbass ? …which are MIC.
They’ve definitely risen in price since I bought my 32” scale Rockbass Corvette in 2014.

Every action we take is political. It is impossible to avoid. If you support Chinese oppression of Tibet and the Uighurs, and the massive hacking of Ukraine by China then have no qualms, buy a new thing from China. But make no mistake, if you buy from China you are supporting autocracy and despotism rather than democracy. Your choice. Or you could buy used. China's genocidal industrial slave masters don't get a penny of that money spent. Every act and word is political. Act from your conscience and you can't go wrong.

All well and good. But no country or regime is without its share of injustices and blood on its hands. Something that becomes abundantly clear to anyone who seriously studies human history.

Open your eyes. There are no innocent parties on this boat were on. Sad but true.

So I guess you drive a horse?

It’s just the way of the world. I can understand your feelings, but you (and all of us) are kinda in the same boat.

Some of us are old enough to to remember when “made in Japan” meant “junk”, and we all know how that changed.

“Made in China” isn’t quite there yet, but it is getting better. The sad fact is that it seems to be “made in USA” is slipping toward “not so great”. Let’s hope it doesn’t reach “junk” status.

its the NTI model....looking at the pic, do you see my quandry about its MIC pricepoint?.....I was looking for a push for or against getting it as Im on the fence about it.....and while Im glad the thread didnt overly get political, Im glad I posted it: If theres one piece of advice I have given many times myself, some folks here are giving it back to me, and they are correct: A bass needs to really speak to me to warrant getting it -- if this one just has potential, it may be worth if it if I had that kind of disposable income, but I dont

Have you considered the same bass in used form?
Of course, but (these days) I prefer to purchase instruments hands-on at stores.....and there isnt a used one locally

I hear what you are saying but this is not the format to discuss this in, please.
