We need a mod on our side to make sure that never happens. Who do you think will be the easiest to corrupt?

Read between the lines
Major Metal
I fear being too outspoken about this

The money that I have saved by not making mistakes with my equipment because of something i learned here or buying or not buying certain types of equipment because of reviews and/or horror stories i read here, FAR outweighs the $20 supporting membership fee, if anything, I owe talkbass more money!!!!!

They do allow you to contribute more than $20, ya know. :smug:

I became a member because the ghost of Charles Mingus came to me in a dream and told me I was the chosen one and that my purpose was to preserve the integrity of talkbass and the legacy of his playing. So I had no choice in the matter really. Who am I to question the supernatural?

Or I just figured I had gotten plenty of enjoyment and information from here and it would only be fair for me to chip in a couple bucks.

I'll stock up on green and shiny objects. You stock up on beagles.

I didnt think that through very well. Im not much of a dog person (though I have a particular soft spot for beagles).

Hmm, what if I get some Snoopy gear?

It's not THAT little. It's $20 per YEAR each (I would hardly call that "regular"), plus the money they get from advertisers and corporate accounts.

With what TB provides me, and for how often Im logged in, $20 seems like chump change.

Its a lot cheaper than a trip to the therapist, MD, church, and relationship counselor combined.

If you can't get your credit card out one measly time a year:

a) Run NOW before GAS gets a hold of you.

b) Buy a 25 year membership for $150, then you only have to get your credit card out 2 or 3 times in your entire life.

Per this thread, Im assuming he'll be dead within 25 years, so just once.

Also, I like that you quoted the "Head Flaming Lip" ;)

im talking about THE AVATAR. If the AVATAR is such an insignificant perk inside a package of benefits
why isnt FREE TO UPLOAD THE AVATAR like in every social network in the world...

See, the tactic is effective. You want an avatar so bad, they trick you into paying for one :hiding:
If you want it that bad, pay for it. I did.

The amount of advertising here is ridiculous.

Is it? It seems out of the way enough for me.

If you promise that your avatar picture will be of the space elevator I'm sure someone will spot you the twenty bucks.

I'd give him the $20 if his avatar were of him riding a space elevator, but to be honest, I dont trust that he'd keep it up for very long.

If you are a user and want to have an avatar you literally got to pay 1 MONTH of a FAST and PRIVATE server...

1 AVATAR = 1 MONTH of server cost

Listen, YOURE OUT OF ORDER! YOUR WHOLE DAMN THREAD IS OUT OF ORDER!!!

See, now youve made me yell.

Im pretty sure this thread violates some forum rules (maybe not)

Pay to play, buddy. Pay. To. Play.

The fee is for selling privileges & a larger cloud space so to speak. The avatar image is just frosting.

It is assumed that if you have an avatar youre going to sell gear.

Because 20 bucks is the minimum cost in TB, and a month of a private and fast host cost that.

But your $20 lasts you an entire year.

We can switch our roles in this machiavellian plan if you want.

No, thats cool. Now I want the beagles.

Look what youve caused me to do, OP. Look at all this bandwidth youve made me use!

THAT, is why we pay $20. People like you... :ninja:

There is a Spector hanging over Talkbass: The Spector NS-5XL. Talkbass is obviously slipping further into a stratified social forum of the Haves and the Have Nots! The bourgeoisie supporting members indicate their class standing through the symbolic culture of their avatars. The non-supporting members have no choice but to provide their bass knowledge to the capital-owning supporting members on the open Talkbass knowledge market, which is then extracted by the supporting members in the form of bass knowledge profit. Meanwhile, the supporting members engage in their elite class habitus by eating caviar and enjoying many lulz in the TB HOF by reading DeluxeRed's original thread where he got two bass players fired in one weekend due to his awesome stage presence. The non-supporting members often accept this forum structure by engaging in false consciousness informed by their love of Gary "Geddy" Lee Weinrib's playing, a noted follower of the anti-collectivist Ayn Rand. There's a reason that bass players wear berets. I smell revolution in the air my comrades. Soon, the non-supporting members will overthrow the supporting members and sieze the means of creating avatars!

:p

People who care enough about an avatar should care enough to support the guy running the site. I only became a supporting member after I wanted to participate in the classifieds, I could give a crap about an avatar, I'm not a 13 year old girl. You most likely also spend an inordinate amount of time dressing up your Xbox avatar.

I got to use an international credit card to pay an amount similar to a month of the site's hosting if i want to have a user's avatar...
All this guys bashing me and i cant delete my account!

do you think that is justice?
:rollno:

But you have to be ready to give them in due times, will you be able to do that? I don't want to have to get spare beagles just in case you get emotional and try to keep them. I'm counting on you.

It helps that Im a cat person (by that I mean part human, part cat). I shall bear no emotional attachment to these beagles but for one, the one I shall call 'Tim'.

Well ok. I want to delete my acount now but there´s no option for that. So it seems i got to pay 1 month of server hosting if i want an avatar, and im trapped here, plus TB have my info forever...

:eyebrow:

You can always talk to Chuck Norris...

matticus channeling his inner aborg again...

Ay bore gee what? :eyebrow:

NEVAR! They will pry my avatar from my cold dead forum hands!

I knew I sensed a ragequit :D

Mission Accomplished, comrades.
