The finish is tung oil with mineral spirits. The first finish was thinner and not glossy.

Then years later I gave it another coat of tung oil with enough mineral spirits to make it glossy.

How do you like the Wilkinson?..
I like their Jazz pickups so i got a couple mm to replace some no names that are just MEH on my ongoing project... I haven’t played them yet.

i had a mighty mite neck on a parts precision bass. tried another neck on it but that mighty mite HAD IT. when i swapped back i got the tone i was missing
have a killer birdseye maple mighty mite strat neck as well. if you can't afford your custom dream neck from warmoth these ain't too shabby a consolation prize

I have always said most of the tone follows the neck. The pickups and location obviously matter but the neck plays so much more of a part compared to the body. I don’t think it’s a “tone woods” thing. I think that softer and flexible woods soak up vibrations and stiff hard woods let notes ring. People who have had warmoth necks with steel and carbon rod necks say they can hear a difference between the two. The steel rods take away some of the “swell” that fenders are known for but not f someone isn’t chasing a vintage tone that’s not a bad thing. I swore I would get carbon fiber rods the next time I got a warmoth neck but when I came time to order I remembered how much I loved how stable all my other steel rod necks were and with a house that changes humidity all the time I went with the steel rods. They are almost set and forget when it comes to stability. I also found putting hipshot ultrlites Y key tuners takes care of neck dive and also makes the neck feel just as little as my fender. The overall weight of the bass is lighter compared to my MIA jazz.

it’s hard to find extra volume strat knobs. they usually come in sets of 1 volume, 2 tone because the world is guitar-centric.
