IFortunate Son is 'offensive to vertrans' (sic)
Has she ever listened to the lyrics of this tune?
I almost never recommend this, but: Run away. Fast.

We didn't expect to have Maude Flanders as our commissar.
...
The Ramones' Rock and Roll High School 'would start fights.'
yep... you should send her a list of really good songs like ...
Breaking the Law
Highway to Hell
Number of the Beast
VooDoo
Thunder Rolls - Heck she asked for some Garth Brooks right... make sure you note you'll be doing the 3rd verse.
so many others
I'm just curious on what the comments would be on those...
It's so absurd... i know you didn't make it up.
Wow.
I would not in a million years agree to play that "party" after the email she sent you, never mind the $500 each!
I would however, do what a previous poster suggested and send an Op/Ed piece in to the local paper explaining why there will be no music at this celebration, and would definately make some parallels to Foot Loose....but then I'm kind of a grump curmudgeon sometimes so....YMMV.
In addition to writing the paper, throw your own bash! Make it a pot luck or something where all your band's friends and family can come for free and bring food (or you could charge a small cover, less than $75 lol). I'm sure it would be a lot more fun if the rest of the official party is run the same way as the music is....
If I was part of that groups leadership I would be enforcing the signed contract, not quitting!...and one of the professional acts (local acapella group) quit over the money issue, since Ms. Flanders appears not to have understood that the singing group had a signed contract, and that the money was supposed to be going the OTHER way.
There's no way on earth I'd play that event under those conditions, even without the $500 contribution. If she'd objected to one or two songs, perhaps I'd have been willing to compromise, if I wasn't sure the songs were appropriate for an all-ages show.
If the high school or city government is sponsoring the show, I'd try to find someone sane there to complain to. If their are any corporate sponsors, I'd make sure they knew why my band wasn't playing. The event is going to be a complete train wreck unless the busybody in charge is replaced, and I wouldn't want to be part of it.
Ding, ding, ding! Game over!To add injury to insult, she caps it off with a request for $500 to be paid into the event's general fund.
Found the website and FB page for the events. They list several bands/acts to play over the weekend. Do you know how many of them are still slated to perform? The FB page hasn't been updated in some time...so I'm guessing a lot of that info is outdated.
I totally like the idea of hosting your own, separate, "off-campus" celebration. And to show no hard feelings, you could still collect donations to give to the school fund.
