A good bass for glam metal?

Can someone reccomend me a good bass for glam metal? Motley Crue,Ratt,Steel Panther...that sort of thing.And maybe a cab or fx pedal if it´s crucial for the sound.Also, how to get that 80´s sound?
I´m pretty new (been playing bass for a year now) so don´t mind my lack of knowledge

Well..not sure what they were actually recorded with in studio, but if your playin the likes of 'Talk Dirty' then for show purposes, nothing beats a neon /lime green BC rich ironbird.
Just seeing it will make people think it's accurate. (Or any 80's bass in neon colors could do)

That said, they probably used a pbass in studio.

That said, they probably used a pbass in studio.

Sure they use p basses for the recording and usually bury it deep in the mix (Motley Crue as an example) I look for a bass that can bring the sound AND the looks.Not that anyone really cares for my sound onstage (the sound guys really turn me down haha) but I really care for the sound.

I had a Kramer D-1

It's fine, EMG's are loud and crisp and the bass is pretty light with OK balance.

I didn't get on with the neck, too slim for me, I like a fat P bass neck and the sound is good, but uninspiring, I don't mean that in a bad way, but it lacks character compared to my G&Ls.

For glam rock, mainly root note which is what most of Steel Panther is it will do a good job.

I picked mine up second hand in good condition for about £100 so almost disposable.

How silly of me to suggest something that half of the glam bands in the 80's used.

The point of the link I posted is that you can use whatever you want for any type of metal. If you want a T Bird, a Kramer, or a BC Rich then get one. Like any style of music it's more about how you play than what you play.

The sound can be delivery by many basses, I would focus in the look and resale value, because of this my choice is a Thunderbird.

Any bass with a fairly odd shape will do as long as you give it a paint job.

Here I would recommend silver with glitter in it, now you'd just have to get hold of some small star shaped stickers in various metalic colors and glue them on here and there, and you should be good for playing bass in a glam metal band.

Remember that it is crucial that you are careful with the painting and placing of the stars, cause no matter how untasteful silver, glitter and metal stars might look, it is important that it looks like it is done by a professional graphic designer/decorator.

I guess the sound you should be going for has been covered well already by Jazz Ad, maybe a distortion pedal of some kind, eventually accompanied with some cheesy chorus and ecko pedal for your bass solo show could be added to that.

Sorry, if I sound a bit humorous in my reply, it's just that I have a hard time taking a genre that pretty much is a caricature of it self seriously.

Non the less, as with the look of your bass, it is important that you at least look and sound like you are taking it seriously.
