a good pick to use with bass?

Keep it simple. Fender Heavy. They are cheap and every music store on the planet carries them. Buy the lightest "or brightest" color you can. Dark picks magically disapear under poor lighting conditions.
I use the black Dunlop 1.0 nylon picks. You don't get the clicky noise you get with some plastic picks and they have a good feel to them. They also have a raised ridged area back where you hold it so if your hands get sweaty you don't drop it. I'll use the tortex and the Big Stubby picks in a pinch, but they're a bit too stiff and more clicky to me.
I have a hard time using wedgies for anything but acoustic guitar. The rubber gives a great sound (especially on acoustic). Problem is they are so thick and awkward to use. It might be because I am used to using medium thickness picks though. Sound wise though they have very little pick noise.
Dunlop "Ultex" (with the rhino on them) are my current faves -- I use the 1mm. Used Dunlop Tortex for years and they are fine also, but the Ultex are a little rounder sounding and work particularly well with flats.
whittle a pick out of a soft wood and sand it to a soft but not shiny finish, then over time oils from your skin, sweat, and grease and dirt will soak into it. that gets the closest to finger tone with a pick for me.
The best pick I have ever played Bass or Guitar is the Big Stubby.

+1 To the Dunlop Ultex.
The Ultex picks are less "clicky" sounding compared to others I've tried. My preference are the .88mm triangle picks.

I like the 1mm Clayton picks that are like a large rounded triangle. Nice and big...not too thick yet stand up to bass strings real nice. The big rounded triangle is easy to keep a grip on and I can hold different ways for diffrent "twang".

+1 for triangle Ultex .88mm. I like triangle shaped picks more than normal ones, they have more "area" to grip.

I don't use a pick very often, cause, you know I'm a real bass player
...... but when I do use a pick it's the fender Heavies.

Felt picks are cool if you like a lessy pick-y tone.
