A Guitar center "BASS OFF" ????

I hear THAT....
The ONLY reason I go to these contests , is really for father /son time....
I play bass...he plays bass and guitar...
He is 13...
It gets us the hell out of the house and me out of my home office and him out of his room.
We get to see other kids often who are not much older than he is...
I think it is a great thing for me and him to hang out together and do...and the price is right for a weeknight of entertainment for him..free :D

I prefer bassists style that often get to follow the guitarist.
In a fast beat or even soloing...
Similar to How Geddy Lee follows Alex Lifeson...and visa versa.
Billy Sheehan also does this all the time ...Like when he played alongside Steve Vai, when they did the David Lee Roth gigs...
And that Bass player for Extreme. He stayed right there note for note with one of the best guitarists ever Born, Nuno Bettencourt!
Cupids Dead is a very good example of this, on Extreme III.
So is YYZ on Rush, Moving Pictures.

I'd do it. I'd like to see other styles.
True, most of it would be thump, tap, 1,000 note crazyiness but it'd be fun or funny I guess.
It would be like a comic book convention though...those guys crack me up. Like M.Manring but without the talent, drive, determination, creativness but mostly talent.

I prefer playing with guitarist (and other musicians) who want to play songs (not wank off), and who enjoy making music as a collaborative effort (not dictatorial). If I was just a hired bassist that's one thing, I'll do the job I'm paid for. But if we're supposed to have a band where each member participates, then there's no room for attitude.

Whenever I've been to a GC there's usually a "bass off" between one kid playing higher ground and another playing for whom the bell tolls.
