Also, for the record, I'm not even saying that you're lying. I am just saying that there's always two sides to a story and so far we've only heard yours. The seller might genuinely just be afraid of you or something and that's why they disappeared and are refusing to meet up / cooperate. Some people are weird. The seller might actually think nothing was wrong with the bass and you broke it, even if they're wrong.
Here's the one thing I disagree with you about. If the Seller was Relieving the tension by pulling on the neck, That could make the Truss rod nut turn easier. The tension of the neck on the Nut makes it hard to turn. Always Always Alway relieve the tension on the neck before attempting to turn a Truss Rod Nut. After 40 years of building basses, I know what I am talking about.Yer he described his turning of the nut as normal and not stiff. A bold faced lie, if I have to say it frankly.
The photos are not conclusive. That could be the way the truss rod looked when it left the factory.Has anyone looked at the photos I uploaded?

The seller chimed in here:
A local TB'er ripped me off!![/
except that the nut was so tight when I got it that there's no way he could have adjusted it without noticing that it was excessively tight.I am not sure I understand the question. He was trying to sell the bass and described the action in, perhaps, a dubious fashion...he did not say that it was set up in a pro shop. There is no evidence that the seller was lying at all.

So it is your postion that the seller is an absolute liar?Wow.....
That is your claim that it was excessively tight. I suggest that if the truss rod nut has 1/4" of purchase on the truss rod threads that it may well be functional. Maybe not ideal, but functional nonetheless.except that the nut was so tight when I got it that there's no way he could have adjusted it without noticing that it was excessively tight.
Yes it is my position that the seller is not telling the truth. He also tries to cast me in the light of being haphazard and going willy nilly at the truss rod, however I again maintain that, upon Carl Pedigo's advice, I forced nothing and carefully and quite correctly removed the nut. My assurances to the seller thst I thought it would he alright were based on the fact that I trusted that it was simply matter of lubrication perhaps, and that he wouldn't have sold me a broken item. As of thst phone call to him, I was out and about shopping with my wife and hadn't yet removed the neck/nut.So it is your postion that the seller is an absolute liar?

Well after a couple of turns, the nut bottoms out and stops dead. I've never had a truss rod with such little travel. Have we not all always been advised that truss rods should be relatively easy to turn, and that if they seem excessively stiff or "frozen", not to force it?That's what I keep thinking as I read this thread. Could the OP clean up the end of the rod and nut, put the nut back on and see it it'll work for him? Am I missing something here?
Seller has refused to cooperate. He knows where this all sits, he could tender me some kind of offer, yet he has not. I'd probably just get angry if I contact him again, based on his refusal to cooperste in any way thus far.
Are you a competent luthier? Can a competent luthier please chime in on this? I am not a pro but I have alot of experience with bolts and threads. Truss rods have a pretty fine thread, 1/4" is plenty to provide a secure connection.Yes. Looking at his profile, he uses TB as nothing more than a place to resell basses. Adding that he claimed a "pro setup", and that he also inspected the truss rod.....but an admitted amateur immediately noticed an issue.......
As to your second point.....no competent luthier would agree with you.
All this tells me is that the seller is confident in his position. This is the part of this that makes it all dubious and makes me SMH.
