yeah, the guy with the burns seemed excited by the flakes... i thought he was a bit dim

just didn't think they'd use anything that expensive in anything other than really stupidly over the top basses, but i guess gold isn't THAT expensive, you can get gold leaf in craft stores
 
Gold is pricey but the amounts used in plating or flakes are so ridiculously small that it really isn't that expensive. With the material of one gold ring you could probably plate hundreds of tuners and bridges, the extra labor and time adds more cost than gold itself. And the leaf gold used on flakes is so incredibly thin it doesn't add expenses that much. :)
