nothing makes me angrier than seeing a "fender bass" listed for like $300-$400 and it turns out to be a squire. what did it cost me? a click and a look through the photos....but i get so annoyed
As a buyer, if they're asking Fender prices they're not talking to me. Regardless of what the badge says. So if I'm selling, I'm selling a Squier (or worse). And might as well just say so. Saves time for everyone.

And I do not write off Squier - the 40th Anniv. Jazz gets as much play as any of my other basses, plays and records like a dream.

I'm always on the lookout for Squier affinity p basses because I like to customize and mod them (see my avatar lol) and nothing irks me more than someone trying to sell one as a Fender for $300. Some people say "Fender Squier bass" or Fender bass in the title and have Squier in the description but still push it as a Fender and charge more than it is worth.
I know there are some people who genuinely don't know what the difference is and look up what a Fender costs second hand and throw it out there, but when someone tries to sell one for hundreds of dollars and KNOW what they have it's really sketchy. Squier affinities are great for beginners and gouging someone for that is just not right. IMO these should be no more than $100 stock, for modders like me and for those looking to get a cheap but decent quality beginner bass. Also, I've bought some that have serious issues under the hood... truss rods being maxed out, serious warping or bowing of the neck, etc. Knowing these issues and still asking for a lot is unethical IMO

I've got an affinity that I put way to much money into. When I do sell it... I'm thinking of saying it's a Bronco, Affinity, Squire (I know) , Gibsonbacker.
I see it on Craigslist all the time. Annoys me that they put Fender in the title! I just ignore it. But I'm betting a lot of folks don't know the difference.
I'd rock a Squier. To me it's a more honest bass than a "legit" Fender. With Squier I expect shortcuts and quality control issues.

The cheats will continue to cheat - because we're too timid, politically correct and gosh darned nice to name and shame them. They prosper in anonymity.
Off topic, but what kind of bass is that in your profile pic? Semi hollow with 2 f holes with 7.5 radius fretless ebony fingerboard is giving me some serious G.A.S.
Found the pic on the interwebz. Was able to trace it to some obscure luthier from the 1990s in Pennsylvania I think.

I’m still searching for Squire headstock decals to put on my pre-CBS Fenders. All I can find is Squier decals
Worse yet is the ads that claim they have 60's or 70's basses or parts, that are really just reissues.
