A purchase with issues

Thank you for posting that BobaFret. That is usually something that you would disclose, at least I always would. Give the buyer the opportunity to decide for himself if this is something I wanted...

Actually he posted a link to his youtube channel and that video was and is among them and so I don't think he was trying to hide anything from you, you just didn't watch that video. To characterize it as him not disclosing it, would be inaccurate.

Ooh, good spot Bob. It's been a long time since I've had to use Paypal's dispute resolution measures. *knocks on wood* In fact, I don't know if I've ever had to use those measures outside of an eBay transaction. I assumed, my bad.

Let this be a lesson to all of us, or just me haha. RTFUA. :D

My girlfriend was the victim of a bad online transaction (CL). She tried to do something nice for me and it ended up with the seller lying about the description, refusing to work with her at all and Paypal stating that since the item was shipped there was nothing they could do.

I definitely agree. RTFUA. One certainly does not want to end up like Kyle on Invalid Link Removed. :D

you know I'm really disappointed here and quite honestly HURT!

First I'm very shocked that this is even a thread and we haven't even finished talking in private. This comes as a slap in the face to me quite honestly. We haven' even finished talking in private and trying to settle the matter and this is on talkbass as an issue.

I didn't respond over the weekend because of 2 things. I don't conduct business on the Sabbath (from sunset Friday until sunset Saturday) and I was out with my wife celebrating her finishing up her Masters degree in Econmics the rest of the the weekend. In no way shape of form was I hiding.

Now with that being said I will state again that the crack WAS NOT THERE when I sent it. It's an ebony board. Maybe the humidity changed from the travel from Chicago to California and some swelling took place. Maybe a giraffe sneezed on it while on the plan. The point is that I don't know what happened between it being shipped and his tech touching the bass, however that crack was non existent upon leaving my hands and I stand behind that wholeheartedly. I have expressed this time and time again and honestly it saddens me probably more than it does Thomas.

The switches on the pickups all worked before i shipped the bass. I tested it before I put it in the case just to make sure that I wasn't leaving any loose ends.

Just because I have spent the money from a SALE that took place doesn't mean anything. It just means that I had some things that I wanted to take care of. Honestly had I known all this E-drama would've come about I would've kept the bass and enjoyed it for another 2 years. So for those of you that are upset because I used the money from a sale as I saw fit in my personal life...well you should get a personal life of your own. Just because I'm not in a financial hardship doesn't mean that I didn't spend the money on other bills that I'd like to have out of the way.

Now I've offered to try and rectify the situation as best as I know how. Which is offering to send the gig bag that Thomas mentioned previously free of charge and paying for the repair fees. He has expressed that he wouldn't feel confident with it being repaired and only wants a new board. If it's within my means as I told him I would do so, but as it stands now I don't have the cash for it (remember...personal life). No IMHO there is no way that that crack after being repaired as all luthiers do on ebony boards (CA GLUE + EBONY DUST) is going to stop the bass from playing as awesome as it always has. I doubt that the crack even affects anything as it stands now and that's my honest opinion.

For those of you that want to know why the neck was replaced...well here it is. Some idiot here at a shop over tightned the trusrod and broke the old neck. So Tim over at callowhill being the great man that he is replaced it under warranty. Thomas has been notified by CallowHill that they would repair the bass under warranty as well.

Personally I'm not here to rip anyone off or not disclose anything. Now I've been upfront on every single thing on every single bass I've sold and I have no reason to be dishonest now. Heck I just traded my other CallowHill bass and wanted to send more pictures of the new owner so he saw all the flaws that I thought he might not have been aware of.

Now here I stand as a man still saying that I will work with Thomas to the best of my means to rectify the situation, which is warranty repair work.

I am interested in protecting myself at this point. The seller has ceased all discussion at this point and instead of using the time friviously while I am waiting for his response, I am taking action to protect myself. I haven't filed anything or started a criminal investigation. However, I will tell you that I have been contacted by several other's here on TB that explained that they have had issues with this seller in the past. Now, not that I am going to take that as truth, but I am alarmed and concerned about the funds that I put towards this purchase.

So to be fair, I have given the seller 24 hours to respond to the request of a full refund and I have given him 9 days to make a full payment in return. I want to be fair about this but at the same time stern.

Again thank you everyone for your opinions and feedback.

who else has had an issue with me selling? I'm really dying to know. Please look at my feedback on my account. There's not one negative.

Youhaven't even spoken to me about 24 hours or even 9 days to make a full return and this post is the FIRST time i'm even reading about it. I have 0 Pm's from you since the PM where you sent me a picture.

I signed off of IM because I'm at work and have to get stuff done and told you that I'd contact you as soon as I got a hold of Tim at callowhill which once I did I signed back on and let you know how to contact him. I've not heard a SINGLE word from you since then and I'm more than disapointed at reading this on this thread instead of in a PM or phone call (which you never even asked for my number).

With that being said I'm still here saying I'll pay for the repair work Tim has to do.

Don't trust Paypal to use eBay rules for deciding a non-eBay dispute. I bought a book w/ Paypal this past year, and it absolutely stunk of mold. Paypal ruled in favor of seller. I discarded the book unread and was glad my lesson was with a relatively inexpensive item.

I guess it was my fault for not asking the seller if the book was moldy. :hmm:

Jeremy,

This was not meant as a witch hunt of a character defamation session. If you feel that this is what it was, I apologize. It was meant to be an open council by peers that have been in this forum for some time and could provide some insight. Nothing more, nothing less.

Callowhill has been very clear that they will not replace the fretboard, and I quote "At this point, I know Tim won't entertain the idea of replacing the fretboard as it is
a 30 hour solution."

Lets take this offline, and I will close this thread. I have sent you a PM with all of my contact information.

Absolutely straight up and honest.

Good job.

I was not aware that threads like this were allowed. I think I understand what thomasjbass was trying to do and understand why he would post a thread like this. I think the problem comes in with allowing the tb community to know who the seller is. It's kind of like a lawyer stating something before a jury and then taking it back, it's still in the jury's mind and can affect their overall decision about the person on trial.

I believe it's best to keep these matters on private rather than starting a discussion on an open forum.

I respectfully disagree. Responsibility falls on the viewers of the thread to keep their contributions factual, and their advice to a minimum unless it's requested. In this case, The buyer asked "What should I do?", and the community had it's say. Knowledge and GAS are the two main reasons I'm here, and prior to this thread, I had no idea that ebony was so prone to splitting. I learned something.
