SamJ, here is my opinion.

You have every right to be annoyed at possibly ill-informed persons posting on topics about which they know little or nothing, but since it is an open forum, you are also required to wade through everyone's opinions and just gauge their validity for yourself.

It doesen't bother me that you posted your rant; if it is forum appropriate, and I bothers you, it is a valid topic. I kind of have to laugh at folks slamming you in a post, because your post about being annoyed at other posts, annoyed them....all sorts of "pot calling the kettle black" idioms come to mind.

But I digress; you have a valid point, but I'm not smart enough to figure out a soloution, other than muddling through the wheat and the chaff like the rest of us.

easily the best response to this thread yet. Not in total agreement with me, fair enough, but at least you get the gist of my post and am not hanging up on my grammar, or other "Tangental" stuff.. ;)

ok, I can agree with that to some extent, but at the same time, I disagree.... people who own something they're not as into, sell them... I've got 18 prior owned basses, most of which I liked to some degree or another, but not enough to keep obviously and can give some critical advise.

yeah, while I was ranting, I got carried away with the keyboard there... I was thinking pictures (as I have of most of my stuff) but then that's dumb, plus a lot of my basses were before digital cameras.

The OP has a CS Jazz bass (masterbuilt, I think) that he paid $5500. On the one hand, he says he doesn't like Fender electronics and has replaced them with aftermarket electronics. Some would say that a $5500 bass should be perfect for the player out of the gate. Some would say that you could take a $500 MIM, plek it, roll the fingerboard edges, and have a jazz bass that plays just as well as a CS jazz bass. Pretty woods and finishes mean very little to some. Those people would play a CS jazz bass for ten seconds and realize that it feels very similar to playing any other jazz bass, especially if their income is closer to that of the guy that made those greasy McDonald's fries from the original post.

On the other hand, the OP's bass is beautiful. If I understand correctly, he also toured the custom shop when he picked it up, and presumably met the builder. This helps form a great personal connection to the bass. He has further customized the electronics, which also helps build that personal connection. The OP is a pilot with a nice income, and is clearly accustomed to a certain amount of luxury in his life. A CS Jazz bass meets his needs, and appears to be affordable, given his income.

Both opinions are valid, right? So what was this thread about again?
