I just wish more companies, besides D'Addario (and maybe TI), would publish the actual tension info on their strings. The fact of the matter is two strings of the same gauge do not necessarily have the same tension depending on the material and construction.

And as if things weren't complicated enough, tension alone doesn't tell the whole story. Two different stings with the same tension don't necessarily feel equally stiff. Stiffness also depends on the flexibility of the string, which varies depending on materials and construction.

Gauges - tension - stiffness, etc...etc... It is indeed a complicated world, isn't it? (And we're only talking about strings!) ;)

I've tried all 3 sets, starting with the 40-100. As I went up in gauge the tone just got better and better so I've been using the 50-105 set now for a few years.

Tension is a little higher, but not at all stiff (to me anyway). The heavier strings definitely sound bigger, deeper, and fuller.

I use the "Regular Light" Gauge on both my longscale Fender Jazz and my shortscale SX (the only thing different about the string sets is the scale length, naturally):

.045, .065, .080, .100

They feel and sound terrific. Punchy with lots of character and also capable of that smooth, rich, thumpy sound that everyone wants of out flatwounds. A versatile string. I love them.
