About to start playing again...

I had a bass guitar awhile back it was a Fender Squier Bronco bass. I had to sell it for a little money to help with some bills, plus I just wasn't playing it as much as I use to. Well, I want to get back into it and wanted some advice on a few basses I just cant seem to decide between. One day this week I will be going to a little local music shop we have and try some, but they don't have much, but it is the closest place we have.
I like playing a little bit of everything. Mainly rock/metal, but I do want to do some slap once I learn how. I'm really not sure if I wanted a 4 or 5 string, either one would do I guess, as long as the price was right.
Here are some of the ones I am looking at:
-ESP LTD B-4E
-Ibanez SR405QM
-Schecter Damien or Stiletto Elite 5
-ESP LTD F-154DX

I know its quite a few, but its so hard to just pick one. haha. I am willing to take other advices as well. I really like the looks of Ibanez and ESP though, well some of them anyway.

Sure, I will head over to that thread in a minute and read the FAQs and all.

I was kind of looking around $500, less would be fine, but a little more wouldn't hurt to much either, but the ABSOLUTE MAX I would spend would be $550 but I don't really want to go that high, but if there is an extremely awesome deal or something, then hell yea!d

Like I said, I mainly like rock/metal and I want to try some slap and maybe playing other types. Any heavy metal like Slipknot, Shadowsfall, In Flames, I love. I also like the classic rock! Muse is another band I like, I could play a few of there songs. There is just kind of an idea of what I mainly play. I really would like to learn some slap and funk. Just basically maybe a good all around bass, or maybe a bass for rock/metal, but still would be pretty decent for the other stuff. I am still quite new to playing the bass guitar, but I would like to start this time around with a nice setup, you know?

Go to the nearest decent music store and try out as many basses as you can. Best way to decide. Get a feel for whether you favor thick, thin, wide or narrow necks. Otherwise it is a shot in the dark. If you tell us where you are located, someone should chime in with a store recommendation.

I live in Fremont, NC. Its about 30minutes away from Wilson and Goldsboro. And about an hour from Raleigh and Greenville. There is Redphish music in Wilson, they have a lot of basses, but mainly Ibanez. Fredericks mucis in Goldsboro, but they dont have many basses at all last time I went in there. I know there is Guitar Center in Raleigh. lol. But if anybody knows any other places..please..let me know..lol

I would say try all the basses you can find in a music store, find out what you want, then buy used...definitely better bang for your buck n this economy. There are many great deals on craigslist. And some, although fewer, on the bay.

Try out the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz. I nearly bought a brand new one in store and thought it was a really great bass for the low price! I ended up buying a used Active Mexican Jazz tonight though.

My other Bass is a Warwick Rockbass Streamer Standard - 2 Pickups version. I'm not sre how much they cost over there but I love the sound from mine, a great budget instrumen imo. Lovely tone, maybe down to the pretty heavy wood lol.

No, but I am getting a amp, and yes a good one :). I wont skimp on that. Tax Return is being nice to me this year :). I wish I knew a place around here that sold ESP basses. Everyone store I have went to, doesn't seem to have any. But then again I haven't gone to Guitar Center in Raleigh yet, but on there site I haven't seend any ESPs on there. All that is in the stores around here seems to be Ibanez. Any of you have a preference between the two? And why?

Well, I went to our local music store and just put a ESP B4-E on layaway, and hope to be picking it up Friday. It feels great and sounds really good. Now I just got to pick an amp on Friday as well. I wondering if anyone knew any sites where I could find some info about the bass guitar, like all the specs and what not. Other than the ESP website, they don't have a lot of information about it up there.
