abrubtly quitting?

"I liked your approach about venting and getting through the evening with your band. That showed class."

"the other two guys were drinking coffee, trying to sober up, and were very apologetic"

i tried talking to them & telling them to get ready & not do drugs & i was completley blown off & told it was no big deal that they do this all the time.

Don't get me wrong.

I'm not saying "don't walk."

I'm just saying, be the better man.

Kinda going off of this - If they are sober or at least "good enough" to play the gig then do it. If not then just just grab the gear, pack up, and tell them that their inability to function properly on a gig is a problem and one you`re not going to stick around for. They aren`t worth it at all.

I know some people will tell you to man it out for the night and that not doing so will give you a bad reputation and the band might spread rumors about you, but honestly I think more damage will be done by staying in the band any longer than absolutely necessary. Like they say, guilty by association. People will probably think you have the same problems just by sticking around with them.

well i have been trying to tell them my concerns & the singer doesn't believe any of this happened. he just told me i was rude for telling him it was not cool to take so long to set up & he is denying he wasn't ready on time & denying that i ever said anything to him about it that night. so frustrated!

Dude, who gives a *^%# what he says. You should drop it completely. Simply bring someone with you to the gig to help you get your gear safely. No reason to say a thing really. I wouldn't give a rat's *** what they say about you either. You can stand on your own merit. Tons of bands looking for bass players ALL THE TIME. ;)

i did not end up playing the gig, i told them my concerns & i was told most of it never happened & that i was a woman for being mad about the spiked drink. so i quit. now i am getting a lot of hate emails. they are pretty absurd too, in one email he threatened to tell my girl that i went to a party & flirted with some girls.

Wow for the 3rd time.

Hate mail? Denial?

The singer sounds like the woman to me. Plus anyone that threatens to rat you out regarding women (whether it is true or false) is a traitor to ALL men everywhere.

I'm glad you got your gear back brother.

hey, i won't deny it. i did go to a party & flirt with some women. but who hasn't? it is unavoidable if you are in a band, girls just want to talk & you can't blow them off. i want them to come back!

I'd just ignore it, concentrate on your other bands and let these guys continue their downward spiral. Unless they are The Replacements you'll have no regrets. ;)
On any of the major gigs I've done these guys would be on a plane home after one show.

Kudos on not doing the gig. I wouldn't have either. As for the emails you're getting from these nimrods just block them and make sure you have no further dealings with them now or in the future.
