But not as many $$ as you might think. Alan's basses are incredible value for money given the quality of the build, the woods and the fact that Alan builds each and everyone entirely by hand and entirely alone.
Things have ground to a halt with regard to spraying. I have had to stop due to the weather just to cold and I don't want possible problems with the lacquer further down the line. My planer has broken down as well and I won't be able to get it fixed until the new year.
Does the finish still get sprayed on with the oil-rubbed lacquer finish? I wasn't sure, but I can see where the climate would have an impact in that case.
The woods on that Harlot do look amazing, though. Do you do anything special to bring out the grain of the ash?

Ok. Not "entirely alone". He is allowed to mingle with the local populace on the odd occassion. Very odd from the local populace's perspective.

What a great piece of mac ebony. The two lighter stripes up top almost have the effect of racing stripes.
I totally dig the center strip on the body. Such a subtle but classy look.
Great Myrtle top. Myrtle and Walnut are the two top woods that seem to have a million different cool variations. And there's something about the color and grain on the back of that walnut body that just knocks me out.
For some reason all your shapes seem to lend themselves well to headless versions but the Harlot is my favorite.
I love that ACGs can look amazing with a one piece body without an exotic top (as that classy fretless Recurve attests) but my favorites will always be the ones with the cool contrasting accent layers. Especially since the body contouring lends to some very cool effects.

Alan have you ever tried putting thin veneers on either side of an accent strip?

Just to clarify, on that one the "two lighter stripes up top" are actually layers of ash and wenge under the top, not part of the ebony top itself.
No Mike, not the layers UNDER the top, the two light colored streaks that are PART of the Mac Ebony top above the bridge on the top horn side. They are even angled more than the other streaks adding to the "racing stripe" look.

I have a soft spot for headless basses so have an eye to making the shape work if possible as a headless version.
I have thought about putting more laminates in bodies but to date have not done the thin veneers yet but I will at some point.

One of my favorites, Alan! I really love the way purpleheart is used as the main accent color in several different places, pulling look of the whole instrument together. Even the chrome hardware emphasizes the purpleheart as the only "dark" shade on the bass (besides the pickups)--brilliant!

Nice. I love the look of that one. Reminds me a bit of the dirty ash with the bloodwood board (or [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] you're working on with the holly top and bloodwood board) in the sense that you've got a very colorful fingerboard so a figured but still somewhat subdued top really sets it off well.
I think the chrome hardware is a nice touch and really works well.
