I know of one bass with a bypass. You need to put in a separate signal path to the jack if you want to bypass the pre-amp there is no passive path in it so you need to build one in the bass. An on/on switch to select the path and a volume on the passive side straight to the jack would be the most simple way to do it.

You can add the passive tone at any point.

1) Anyone ever bypass them (active/passive switch)? If so, how difficult was it?

I built my own preamp and added a bypass switch - it's easy. A DPDT switch will work, one side for power (to make sure the battery isn't still powering the preamp in passive mode), one side to control the lead to the output jack. This arrangement assumes everything has a common ground. The pickup output will have to be routed two places - one to the input of the preamp, the other to the bypass switch. I can do up a little wiring diagram if you need it. My preamp (buffer really) used the existing passive V/V/T controls. If your preamp has its own volume and tone controls, then you'll need to add a volume control on the passive side of the switch as noted above.

If you want to get a little funky, you can add an LED to show when the bass is active.

How should I turn to knobs to get a "flat" preamp response? The two filters totally open and the overshoot peak anti-clockwise?

I had a bass with pair of Bartolini MK5CBC pickups, does it compatible to ACG EQ-02 preamp?
