I always liked my iAMP 800 the best for driving my Acmes (at least as far as SS heads go).

+1 The iAmp800 was the best head I ever used with my two B210's. The combination of the quickness of that head, the high power, and also the sparkle and upper mids you could dial in to (in my case) compensate for the relatively polite upper mids and treble of those cabs really worked pretty well.

Still a little 'sterile' sounding for me overall, with a little too much 'boom' in the deep low end, but again pure personal choice and preference there.

Has anyone used a B2 and a AI Focus together? How do these match up?

I hate to ask another "would this be enough" question but would this be enough for a moderately loud rock gig in a small/medium club without a PA - assuming that the B2 is 4ohms and getting 800 watts from the focus.

My feeling is 'no'. I never had much luck with a single B210 projecting at even moderate volumes regardless of the wattage. However, others have had other experiences, although many ex-Acme owners have had similar experiences to me. Great sounding cabs, but the combination of the very low tuning, the rather polite mids versus other cabs, and the small box size resulted in a less than optimal situation for me to punch through even a moderate volume mix. Two stacked is a different story though.

For comparison, here's a shot of handles of both a B-4 (on bottom) and a B-2. The B-4 handle size is near the size of a more "traditional" sized cab handle, simliar to maybe that of an Eden D410XLT.

A friend of mine borrowed one of my Low-B2 cabs whilst he was waiting for his UL112 to arrive. He drove it with a Focus MkII (600W @ 4 ohms?). The 4 ohm Acme was marginally louder than the 8 ohm UL112 with significantly fatter bottom and bass extension. He plays in a rock/reggae/funk covers band. I gather their guitarist is loud but their drummer has restraint though I haven't heard them myself.

If like Ken you play some kind of wimpy bass that hasn't got enough balls to cut through without a dollop of amp/cab colouration then the Acme may not suit. ;) However, I play an '87 Warwick and Phil plays an '87 Wal. They growl and bite and snarl (but only when we want them to) and always get heard...

What attenuator settings have you found work best? I'm driving a B-4 with an RBI / Crest CA-6 and am not a great judge (tin ear!). I will say that you can run just about any preamp with the EQ flat and the B-4 still sounds impressive. The placement of the attenuators does make it difficult to tweak "on the run".

ya know,

oddly enough, i never fully embraced the iAMP series w/ my B2 2x10. the 800 w/ my B4 4x10 was just tremendous! one of the best sounds i've ever used. unfortunately, the B2, not so much.

but now with all the attenuator fiddling, i'm realizing, i might have missed out!

One other thing that the "pocket handles" do... at least in the B4 Series I I sold to BillyB_from_LZ... they serve to support the rear port tubes. Was that a happy accident where a couple of design elements happily coincided... or were they designed to "mesh" that way on purpose?

Only Andy Lewis knows fer sure! ;)

All I know is that those boxes rawk!

When you consider the quality of the components, the fit and finish, the low price of these cabs and Andy's deep thinking on all matters speaker related, you can only assume that serious R&D went into the Acmes, right down to 'minor' details like port supports.

Over the last few months I've been trying to design a better bass cab - and when it comes to the lows, it's impossible to do better! I think I can improve on the midrange output but only by throwing serious money at the problem and using high end drivers, which would be prohibitively expensive in a production bass cab. And to be honest, I'm not even sure that's an improvement in response, just in maximum midrange and treble output.

I have an original B2, I guess that's a Series I, right?

Is the new B2 any different? How will the two sound together, or are they basically the same?

I currently put my Aguilar DB750 through the B2 and an Eden 210XLT. The Eden of course overpowers the Acme, and I don't like it.

I want to go with 2 cabs. I'm definitely getting rid of the Eden.
Should I get another B2? Or should I get rid of both 210s and go with a pair of Aguilar GS112 cabs? Which combo will make my Bongo4HH/Jazz/6-String with Barts DB750 sing best?

That's up to your tonal prefs. Myself, I am willing to throw more wattage at cabs that trade off sensitivity to sound flatter and go deeper. That's one powerful sound for low B and lower, and yet so able to show all the subtle stuff in every range too. Your perfs and needs may differ, and only you can decide that.

Until Andy gets something new into the marketplace the B series will continue to be among my faves.
