To answer alot of old questions, the speaker is an original Cerwin Vega 187 18" speaker, the speaker is backwards facing in a small trapezoidal shaped middle section that attaches with the "Frankenstein" bolts you can see on the side. It fires backwards into a V-shaped baffle that then splits the sound out into the individual horns and is directed out the front of the cabinet. The sound travels in a W shape. Even though it's an 18" speaker, this cabinet produces just as much treble as my ampeg 15. The sound from the cabinet is very different than a direct radiating speaker, it sounds slightly muddy at about 5 feet away but once you get 30 feet away, the clarity is remarkable. Mid scoops sound terrible out of this cabinet and with the Variamp function on the 360 preamp, you can get great punch.
VARIAMP on 2 with the effect knob cranked all the way up and Bridge pickup on a jazz bass gives you that jaco grind and punch that you hear on his live recordings. The variamp gives every note that "thud" you hear in jacos sound. Harmonics will punch you in the face through this thing!
