I've run into this over the years - people in general and guitar players as well dissing Neil Young's guitar playing. NY (Mr Soul) plays from his guts and it's raw and rough around the edges - you feel his playing down deep. I only can speak from my own relation to such, but expression so real is not accessible for everyone it seems. It's so easy to be wowed by flash or entertained by tasteful technique but those traits for what they are worth ;) live more in the ear than the heart.

I know I'm considered a weirdo, but I love the sound of Neil's voice; the sound of his acoustic playing, the sound of his piano, his songwriting, his lyrics, his melodies, and yes, HIS ELECTRIC PLAYING!!!

I think the guy's just about as real as anyone ever was, and I have pretty much his entire catalogue somewhere. I can't say I've listened to every single note, but it's there for me, when I want it.

If mapleglo can't jam to him with her band, she's welcome to stop over to Fort Wayne, (where it's much cooler, by the way,) and we will have a Neil Young Day, and play whatever she wants.

Neil Young is a great song writer and musician, but his voice is like nails on a chalk board to me. I have tried to listen many times, but I just can't get past it.

Ha! Love Neils voice but Getty Lee's voice, to quote Hopkins, "is like nails on a chalk board to me. I have tried to listen many times, but I just can't get past it". :D

Luckily there are so many options that there will always be something for everyone! ;)

Rush seems to me like a pretty polarizing band for most people. But for me I can take em or leave em. They have some really good songs, but after one or two I am over it.

I've been enjoying Neil Young since the early 70's when my sister brought home Harvest. What a great album. One of my favorite Neil Young songs is Cinnamon Girl (from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, an earlier album). We were doing that song until we got the new guitarist. He refuses to play any Neil Young. That song has the best one-note lead guitar part in the history of rock and roll. That lead, simple as it is, just fits so perfectly in that context. JIO is right - he plays from the heart like no one else.

Rush is really good, but like Hopkins, I can only take them in small portions. Getty is a great bass player though, and certainly has a unique voice (or did - I saw a recent concert of theirs on cable and his singing was absolutely terrible - we had to turn it off).

While we don't make it out to the midwest very often, or at all, if we do, I'll totally give you a call mellowinman. I'd love to spend an afternoon playing all my Neil Young favorites.

Also, the drill press is in the utility room, and the back wall faces the west, so it heats up pretty good in there. I prefer to save that kind of work for the mornings, which have been running in the low 70's of late.

It was in the high 80's early 90's here just up until the last week or so. I am currently enjoying the two or 3 weeks of nice South East Texas weather that we are allotted each year. Very soon it will get hot again for about a week then it will get cold. Cold is in the 40s here, but the wet air makes it seem worse.

It very rarely gets into the 30's here. Maybe in the dead of winter, late at night or early morning, for maybe a week or so. Typically, the coldest we deal with is mid 30's at night, up to the mid 50's to 60's during the day. Brrrr.

Get the acoustic bass done, and we'll go all Ovation, and do the whole Harvest/Rust Never Sleeps acoustic set.
