True... some players prefer high action and heavier attack. The tone is definitely different than low action and light attack.

Also as mentioned, some people like string buzz ("mwah") and fretboard clank. There was a period when I was emulating Entwistle's piano tone... I didn't use his "typewriter" method, but even so my technique was to hit the strings downward so they'd slap the fretboard.
