Active/Passive Pickups.....

Hi all, first post here :)

In the near future I am considering pickings up a Fender MIM Deluxe Active P bass.

Although I can get the Highway One for £10 more over here, I have been looking for a while for a P/J bass setup, without splashing out on a MIA model.

The main problem is the active electronics, which I am not a paticularly big fan of. So my question is:

Is it possible to simply buy a Standard Mexi pickguard, swap out the active electronics for a standard P/J 2 Vol 1 Tone setup (while retaining the side jack input)?

Or will I also be required to buy new pickups?

Thanks :)

The pups like 90% plus of active basses are passive. Only the tone controls are active. Changeing the electronics to either a diff preamp 2 or 3 band or going to passive electronics is no problem. You should not need to replace the pickgaurd. Simple choose new thing that allows for same number of knobs etc. In a few cases you may need to widen a pot hole in pickgaurd for new pots shaft to fit thru. But thats it.

Thanks a lot Darkstorm, cleared a lot up. :)

Sorry line6man, must remember to keep correcting myself as I always seem to refer to it as the 'input' :D

Although the main reason I considered a new pickguard was because I'd love the combination of a black pickguard/blizzard pearl/maple neck :bassist:

Am I right in thinking that a standard Mexi-sized pickguard would drop straight in on these models?

Thanks :)
