Adding a Bridge cover: yay or nay?

The only bass with a cover that I have is a Gibson EB-3. It would look odd without. None of my Fenders have them although I have a set of covers I could put on my Am Std P.

Ah! The variant that has the mudbucker farther from the end of the fretboard and closer to the bridge - my favorite variant. If I had the cash, that is about the only bass I don't own that I would like to.

Has anyone put covers on a non-fender type bass?

Yes. They look great on my Gretsch Junior Jet, will post pics when I can log on at home. Look real nice on my Jag, but that is kinda Fendery. Also put one on my Godin Shifter Classic, but that body is also somewhat reminiscent of a Fender.

The cover gets a bit in the way but it is not as bad. I consider it to be the best way to cover a mute. Since you will be using flats on it I voted yes.




It does fit but not with where the standard screw holes are. You would have to move the cover a bit closer to bridge. The jazz bass cover won't work with a badass bridge, because no matter how far up you take it, it won't be able to cover the bridge pickup.

Meh it looks cooler with the Badass II on it anyways for me. I personally like the ever-so-slightly-more sustain I get from the Badass and it looks sturdy.

Anyways.

It never occured to me that the headstocks would fit together like that.

I love the 'classic' look of a bridge cover.
The only hesitation I'd have is if, as mentioned above, you use palm-muting...and of course string-changing also becomes slightly more trouble.

I have some schaller and badass bridges. The schaller is exactly like the badass with small aesthetics

Covers on: EB-2dc, Thunderbird, Precision.

No covers: Fretless 'Bird, Gibson EB, guitars.

I might put covers on the fretless 'Bird, just because. I thought about a bridge cover on the EB, but it's got that oddball reversed Jazz body shape, and I can't figure out what cover to put on it. Maybe a traditional Gibson bridge cover. I like ashtrays a lot.

Mine sure goes from "shake the room" to "growl". I also have a SG bass with the humbucker at the neck, but I like the EB-3 much better.

I like the ashtray. I have them on my p and J basses. I use foam mutes under the ashtray/on top of the strings.

I prefer them without--partly due to the look--but also they get in the way for string changes--and even though bass strings are often not changed a lot--it's just more convenient.

I'd say the pickup cover is way more useless. At least the bridge cover has a mute in it that would prove useful to some. Marcus has even stated that he keeps the PU cover on his bass because he likes a little bling on his bass.

I've seen guys use it as a thumb rest--but I'd find that awkward.

After 45 years playing a '69 pbass I changed the Baddass to a Wilkinson copy of the original bridge. Also put on the bridge cover, but now I hear some strange chorus-like sounds, especially when playing muted with heavy Fender flatwounds (bought long ago). Without the cover no sounds. The cover is free from the bridge. Anyone else who experience(d) this?
I like the cover because it protects my hand from the little adjustmentscrews in the bridge, and yes, it looks nice.
