I like the look of the cover. I've considered them for my parts basses, but since I've taken to mainly pick playing I wonder if it would be in the way. Or would it give me a place to rest my hand?

Does the cover have the foam rubber damper? I was young then and I'm old now but I am sure that in the sixties when I first played Fender basses I never saw a cover without the foam insert.
When Fender basses came with the chrome covers installed (up to around 1982) the bridge cover always had a foam mute, the exception being the earliest Jazz Basses which had a muting system attached to the body for the first few years of production. Some people removed the foam, but it was more common to simply remove the covers. Now when you buy the covers separately the foam mute is not attached.

I made one for myself for dampening reason. There is half an inch room for screws to may move it back and forth, depending by dampening effect I want.
