Advertising gigs with Pokemon Go

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread but...

For those of you who don't know what Pokemon Go is, it is a mobile game where people walk around in real life to catch Pokemon and it is huge right now. I've heard that some businesses have been taking advantage of the increased foot traffic and put down lures to attract people to their business, but I haven't heard many people talking about its consequences on live music.

A friend of a friend's band is playing a show on Friday and are using Pokemon Go to advertise. There is a PokeStop at the venue and they have said they will be putting down lures all night and there is also a gym next door. This attracts people who are already interested AND other people in the area who haven't heard of the band, but see there is a Pokemon lure and gym there.

This could be a great avenue for bringing people in the door for shows in the near future and my band will definitely be using it by putting up posters at PokeStops and using lures during shows to bring people in.

I'm not sure how long this craze will last but kudos to the guys thinking up ways to increase their audience with it. I'd have to wonder how many pokemon hunters would be old enough to get in to venues though.
the fluff news did a spot on it giving it to a group of rest home residents. They didn't want to give it back.

They gave another reporter another task, see what was up. He was dead against his assignment but got hooked over the afternoon in the park. Partly because TV crew got him talking to more people I guess.

There should be Pokemon death zones for grinches to put around their offices.

(the kind of miserable who ends up hooked tomod edit Pokemon, scanning the city for anything but real intelligent motivating life).
I really fail to see where the hate for Pokemon is coming from. It's getting people outside exploring and I've personally met quite a few people doing it, plus it's fun.

Most of the people playing Pokemon Go are not old enough to get into our shows.
Well for one thing, lots of venues around here (all that my band has played) are all ages at least until 11 PM, if not all night. Also, I think you may be misjudging the crowd for Pokemon Go. Basically 90% of my friends in their 20's are playing, and I've met a lot of mid-20's people playing as well. Pretty much everybody who played the original games and/or watched the original show as a kid is in their 20's now.

Sorry! I meant: Most of the people playing Pokemon Go are not COOL enough to get into our shows.

What's a lure in Pokemon Go?

A lot too much is done in the name of protecting children. In other words I think a lot of grown up life is being infantilised in the name of protecting children. A flag goes up straight away when I read that something has to be done to protect the kiddiwinks. This is part of the rooted objection I have to being treated like one or having my entertainment curtailed because of their presence.

a few adults have been lured to armed robberies. Afaik anyone can sign up to the game and buy lures, which generate pokemons in walking range of your locale.

I guess if you are a proper pokemon addict you would do that in an isolated area late at night. If you are a cheap proper pokemon addict you would seek out lures popping up in isolated spots to ''catch'' the pokemons lured by someone else's ''investment''.

It only took two days for the bad guys to figure it out.

I just hate how infantile we (adults) are becoming. It's no surprise we also vote as children would. The "Idiocracy" kind definitely. Don't wake me up from my fairy tail bubble, my ******** entertainment and my Brawndo (well, Starbucks' venom, Idiocracy was filmed around 1998, Starbucks hadn't yet become the temple of the snob it nowadays is). Sorry for the grumpy derail.
Idiocracy filmed 2004-2005, 1998 would have been about the time office space was filmed, um yeah, that would be greeeaatt.

I think Starbucks and coffeeshops in general have been temple of the snob as early as temple of the dog, and same city of origin. True it has become even worse now, temple of the hipster. Back in the 90's it was people who looked like team rocket. Yeah I actually watched the TV show in my early 20's, there was something captivatingly annoying about it. Other than wasting time in front of a TV, pokemon never got a dime of my money, and now I don't want to give att any data overages or the petroleum industry any extra money chasing Pokemon on my phone, so I will skip this fad as well.

You mean, water from the toilet?!
Welcome to Costco, I love you.

It's only a matter of time before it gets shut down if they keep it in form it's in now. Too many opportunities for abuse. And then there's the public safety issues.

I'm with Sam Goldwyn: Gentlemen, you may include me out.

Yeah. They're losing their touch. I'm surprised it took them that long to figure out an angle.

My band is going to try it for a downtown gig on the 12th of August. We are playing on a roof so maybe some players will hear us and want to check us out. Can't hurt. Cheap advertising!

Since when playing music is incompatible with the adult real world? Fortunately it's totally integrated for me. As much as I have and enjoy my "real world" career and job I've made a living out of music for some years (in my adult life too) and it also seemed 100% real world to me (devoted a lot of real time and obsession to it and also it paid some real bills for sure). Still make some extra cash out of it often. But even that is absolutely not the point. IDK, I'm 42 now and a father of a 3 y/o boy who loves dad being a hardcore punk musician (AND skateboarder too), all in all, diverse. I feel terribly sorry for anybody who suffers from such dissociation between adult/real life and JOY, must feel miserable (the kind of miserable who ends up hooked to f*ing Pokemon, scanning the city for anything but real intelligent motivating life).

until I saw that you are a hardcore punk musician I thought you were being kind of judgmental
