AERO PICKUPS - Religious Tone Experience

BTW, Aero indicates 3-3.5mm heights withtype 1s. I played with that , and there is definitely a "window". Too close and it gets "warbly", too far and you dont get the output and punch.

Glad to hear my china cabinet and al ocal sound engineer arent the only ones that hear/feel that 20-50 Hz coverage AERO brings.

You Five string players really ought give them a try someday. Prefect fo r someone like Jaquo=III X and low C theory. extended range bassists.

What kind of strings have you had the best results with? Where's your sweet spot with pickup height - I set mine up with the recommended 5/32" height
I use Labella Deep talkin 760FL Flats. Nice amount of tension. Do not feel like cables like some other Labella's are reported to have.
For rounds DR Silver Stars (nano coated)

I never measure pickup height as I find different types of strings require slightly different settings. I adjust until I get the tone I want (not muddy, warbly, or thin sounding)

Would love to see your Skyline DJ! What year??
Here ya go! It's a 2004 (Korean):

I just put the tort pickguard on. The Aeros sound terrific. It originally had a J Retro, which sounded good but was more than I needed and I was over-fiddling with the knobs all the time. Wired it passive with the Aeros and never looked back.

Larry emailed me the following when I asked him about what I had:

"In 2004 99% of the DJ bass contained Aero pickups. Aero supplied these pickups to Lakland from Dec 2002 to Jan 2007, when they were purchased by Hansan.

For the DJ4 Aero supplied JB4 Type 1 pickups. You can tell they are Aero by the red bobbin material, the Aero TM Logo (on the bottom), and the s/n. These pickups are regarded by musicians as the standard by which other JB pickups are judged."

I love the Tort on the LPB, really dig the block inlays. These are just great basses, I wish Lakland was still loading these with Aeros so they wouldn't be so hard to find!

I could not find info on Aero's website for pickup height recommendations. Is the 3-3.5mm pickup height measured when the strings are pressed down at the last fret?.......... From the magnets to the bottom of the string?

I actually posted it in the media section awhile ago- it is correct for Type 1. Larry sent this directly. Here ya go:
Aero Pickups A5 Setup Info

I've had Aero's for quite a while now. I agree. The best. What I like is the complexity of the midrange texture. Serious growl with round wounds. The overall tone is an ideal Jazz tone.

I've been pleased with all strings but definitely digging how pissed this bass sounds with with Rounds. What kind are you using and what bass do you have them loaded in??

I have them on an old Franken bass with an old bass wood Fotoflame Jazz and a warmoth maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Badass bridge.

I have my last set of R Coco Stainless Steel rounds. Great strings, but no longer available I'm afraid. I've been thinking about what I will use next. I have been curious about the DR lo rider nickles.

Awesome. The Lo Riders are fantastic, I've been partial to HiBeams lately and the Rotosound Pressurewounds as well - seems like these Aeros sound good with anything you throw at them.

Which set do you have in the Frankenbass?
