Double Bass AES Walnut

Interesting information about crossbars on roundbacks. I hope we can hear Arnold's reasoning first hand.
I envision the back of a bass as a secondary soundboard. I want it to vibrate freely. To do so, it needs to be thinner than is traditional. So I install a platform for the crossbar to keep the back from distorting. I believe the platform has a tonal effect as well as a structural one.

This is no secret; I observed the use of a back crossbar in a round back several times, in a Brugere, a Lamy, and retrofit in a fine Italian. In all these cases the back was somewhat thin and the sound was excellent. In this case I am no innovator, simply a mimic...

Thank you! Very enlightening. :)

So Phil, you gonna take this one out on real gigs or keep it for "select stuff"?
Maybe Don will let me take it out on Gigs.

I dunno, I wouldn't let me take it out on gigs. After I played it in the picture there he had to soak the neck in Natures Miracle just to remove my stench. Tossed the Belcantos in the trash.

It's here.
I wish Eliot Spitzer was still Governor.
By having it delivered I screwed NY State out of $----.-- of sales tax.
Driver was leaving when I pulled into the driveway.
It was on the front steps.
Thankfully, he put a newspaper between the granite and the wood.
I guess he didn't notice the sun. Sure wish I had bought a cover.
Mrs. Saurus is out for the day.
Good.
That'll give me time to cut a hole in the ceiling tile for the C extension without a bunch of questions.
I'll probably forget to eat today.

Life is good.
