After gig eating.....

Does New Mexico havea take on Mexican food that I am unaware of?
Real Mexican food comes from Souther California ;)

^ I love NM-style Mexican food! It's heavy on the fiery, tasty Hatch chile. We have a great joint in AZ called Los Dos Molinos that does it real well.

The overheard-in-the-kitchen stories are awesome! For me, it was easy when I was still eating eggs -- we'd just hit the 5+Diner (or Denny's, the even-more-desperate, less-50s-themed equivalent) and I'd get a veggie omelet and a side of fruit. Now that I don't eat any animal products, it's waaay tougher to get anything more satisfying than a salad after 1am. More often than not, I'll just eat some cashews and raisins to keep me going until I get home, at which point I'll have beans and rice with some veggies. I'm usually too adrenalized to sleep until a couple hours after I come home anyway.

Well, Ive never actually eaten in NM, so I wouldnt know. I'll trust your account, but the next time Im there if it doesnt live up to my expectation, now formed by your account, Im gonna come looking for you for an apology... and my money back!

Same here. 24hr Macca's :( I won't eat macca's, never have, never will.
25 yrs ago we had same problem & STILL there's nowhere to get decent food late at night in my city.
When I lived & gigged in Melbourne-not a problem. Great restaurants open all hours. Not here tho.
We even had a gig a few yrs ago at a club that was a happening cafe/restaurant during day & eve. I suggested to them to make up a few healthy, EASY to make items, that staff on late could serve either hot or cold- rolls, wraps etc....then ALL the ppl that came to the club at night, who'd leave at 2am to go get food elsewhere, would stay, eat, drink = PAY there instead.
But they didn't do it :( & no-one has yet ???

Hey Rod - what about Labella in Hobart?!:)
Not healthy but always tasty and available.
And the grand Apollo Takeaway in Derwent Park. :D
Ha ha! Probably in a different direction than you would be heading after a gig. The old Greek fella without fail will always ask "Salt on him boss?"

Taco Bell is a personal favorite of my band after shows.

Ah, man! Have you had the Taco Bell Doritos Locos taco?
I get them with tomatoes and hot sauce. I am totally addicted.

There used to be a joint in Raleigh, NC named "Player's Retreat." I don't know if it is still there or not. IIRC, it was close to NC State, just off of Hillsborough Street. I used to go there after playing at frat parties, the Ember's Club, or the Frog & Nightgown. They had decent food, and the coffee was good. That helped to get me back to Greenville. :hyper:

Back when I 1st started gigging there was a bad 24hr. joint on my side of town called Sparky's. The waitresses were greasy. And the silverware was rude. We'd stop there as much for the hang as for the food.

And I miss Krispy Kreme, too. My gf would curse me every time she saw that dozen box on our kitchen counter the next morning.

Pretty lucky here in Indy. There are quite a few good diners open late. Most everything in Broad Ripple (bar area) is open to 4 or 5. Can't go wrong with a place like La Bamba's, whose motto is "Burritos as big as your head."

My favorite was the Popeye's Chicken quite near my house. Open until 5 a.m. More than once I had to drive around someone who had passed out, car running, in the drive through lane. Unfortunately, the owner never paid his taxes and it caught up to him. When I play out of town, I actually do research to see if there's a Popeye's on the way.

For stuff like this, Canadia, specifically Toronto, is a good place to be. We had a weekly residency at a bar on the north end of Chinatown, and every time we'd have the pick of at least 5 different places open at that time. And they all served "cold tea", which is just awesome. Beer from teapots is so cute! And the 'late night menu' was basically everything at half-price.

There's also usually some sort of poutine place, and more often than not some Mid-East/Lebanese/Israeli joint open too. And the fast food exists, but with all the other stuff, we never hit it! I look forward to the late night eats here!

I used to play at a club in Jackson Ohio that was just down from a restaurant that feature a "regular" burger, or for a dollar more you could "Double Your Burger"
I ordered that one night, and was served a regular burger with another meat patty on the side.

Worst experience I ever had was at Alice's Restaurant in Richwoood, WV.:spit:

..but thats another story.:hiding:

Döner Kebab. Food of the gods. Nothing says "you have accomplished your task for the night" like greasy meat of dubious origin, in an ocean of chilli and garlic sauce.

There's a kebab takeaway two minutes' walk from my front door. If I gigged more regularly I would be so very obese.

+1 Nothing like a bit of dog meat. Though I've laid off the stuff for a while. Which do your prefer, chicken or lamb? For me I like both, I tend to find the chicken a little less greasy though.

Up the road from me there's a Indian, Pizza/Keba, and a Chinese a few doors from each other, lucky me lol. :hyper:

Weird; I find chicken too greasy. Lamb's just right. Döner meat and chips, all the salad, chilli and garlic, £5, thank you and good night!

we used to to Waffle House, was an interesting mix there....near Chicago we did Shake n Steak...great shakes......in Dallas there was something I think called world cafe on 75, can't remember the name....once we went to Denny's on 360 in Arlington TX across the highway from a pool hall I can't remember the name of, a skinny black waiter w/ a geri curl was our guy, we had at least 20 people at our table, he proceeds to take everybody's order w/o writing it down.....we all thought "this will be a disaster"....he brought out the food and every order was perfect...mindblowing.
