After gig eating.....

Ok, I've got some great (horrific) after gig, late night eatery stories.
So some of you must have some?

Worst of mine was-
We had a regular Fri night gig (Sat morn really) 1am - 3.30am. The ONLY place open near was a bakery. To cut a long story.....
It was staffed (on that shift at least) with ppl that LOOKED like ex-cons who all seemed to have scars & sores on their hands & other places :-/, & the food available looked like large versions of some of those lesions/afflictions....?
I.e. the cherry custard tart looked like a puss covered boil O_o
You can guess some other horrorshows

Getting food after a gig here is almost impossible. Either burgers, or I think there is now an 24 hour Denny's.

I just usually go home and have beans and eggs. That is my specialty... I am not much of a cook :atoz:

Same here. 24hr Macca's :( I won't eat macca's, never have, never will.
25 yrs ago we had same problem & STILL there's nowhere to get decent food late at night in my city.
When I lived & gigged in Melbourne-not a problem. Great restaurants open all hours. Not here tho.
We even had a gig a few yrs ago at a club that was a happening cafe/restaurant during day & eve. I suggested to them to make up a few healthy, EASY to make items, that staff on late could serve either hot or cold- rolls, wraps etc....then ALL the ppl that came to the club at night, who'd leave at 2am to go get food elsewhere, would stay, eat, drink = PAY there instead.
But they didn't do it :( & no-one has yet ???

Jose's is open until 4:30 am. Link Removed It is the best Mexican joint around. I think they have giant vats of beans and meat and sauce in the back. The only real variable is the tortilla.

They use Gubmint cheese on everything, and I think that's why it's so damn good!

A couple of chalupas, a side of refrieds and a bowl of jalapenos, and I sleep like a baby. My wife on the other hand.......

In the band I just joined, we tend to be fed by the venue more often than not, so we're not starving after a show, but we still like to eat. Anymore, we stop at a gas station and grab what we can. Nothing like a hot dog that's been rolling around for hours to help you sleep! If I'm driving myself to a local gig, I only have a few choices- usually Taco Bell is still open, maybe McDonalds (although I avoid that place like the plague), and rarely a Wendy's or (my fave at the moment) Rally's.

For some reason when I read this post, I had a vision of some hairy fellow stirring some sort of stew with His arm.
I'd avoid eating at said place at any time of the day or night, and would face certain starvation first.

IME-The food offerings of a Quick-trip aint half bad, or a better choice would be a Waffle House if You're in the "Good ole south".

A few years ago, I was in a band that played a lot of gigs in the Midwest, and our preferred after-gig stop was Perkins.

One night, around 4:00 a.m., the place was empty except for us and the staff, four of whom had huddled at a nearby booth to wrap table service for the coming breakfast rush. During a lull in the band's conversations, we heard this snippet from the industrious restaurant staff:

Worker 1: Hey, when you're wrapping service and nobody's around, do you ever, ya know, *lick* the forks?

Worker 2: OMG! Absolutely! I thought I was the only one who did that!

More of a funny story, a band I gigged with years ago. We were in the NJ/NY area, so there's always 1000 diners to choose from. We just finished a gig in NY state and found a 24 hour diner. I've always been a late night "omelet" guy, but my guitarist was ordering the sirloin steak and wanted it "medium." The waitress, without missing a beat, told him they only have "one size." I wonder if the smarter waitresses get the day shifts? We laughed our A**es off, she didn't get it, but was very nice, and still got a great tip, for the service and entertainment.

In a previous band we had a drummer that craved Taco Bell. What I found kind of funny was that even when we played in San Francisco or Oakland, where there are plenty of good Mexican food places to choose from. He would still insist on Taco Bell. SO we would go to El Farolito, then drive to the Taco Bell up on Van Ness or on Market st.

One of the best meals I had after a how was soggy hotdogs. Spent all day in the van heading out to rock some small town bash. We set up, go relax a little in the "hotel" room, and go start first set. We are comped food so I was going to get some grub made for me during second set, eat it before 3rd, well small town bar kitchen closes at 9pm...

Come 3 am I was starving, I jumped all over those nasty nasty hot dogs. No buns either.

Aside from the usual suspects like Denny's or the Awful Waffle not much to be had in a sit down around here. It's usually Taco Bell for a Twelve pack.

The exception is when we play in the downtown at this one club in particular part of the deal there is we get 2 Ex-Large Pizza's after we're done. The thing is they make one of the best pizza's around here. Pizza at 2:30AM awesome!
