After gig eating.....

Before the gig, get some chicken/Lamb, cut it into cubes, marinate it in lemon juice, salt and pepper. Leave it in the fridge. After gig, skewer the meat and grill/broil/whatever. Good with pitta bread, salad and hummus/chili sauce.

5 mins of prep that afternoon make a great meal later on that night.

Edit: obviously I wait til I get home

How cool would it be if you could grill (and eat) a couple of marinated lamb skewers during a gig?

I usually end up watching sports on the bar TVs after most of the people have left, but grilling would be awesome!

One of my regular gigs is in a bar that's right across the street from one of the best pizzerias in town - and they're open until 3am on Friday and Saturday. I usually bring a pie or two home after a gig there.

Another regular gig is at a restaurant. They try to stuff us during the gig so no one's ever hungry by the end of the night. Place has some of the best carrot cake going.

Back in the early 70s in NC, it seemed like every gas station had a short-order grill called a "chuck wagon." The band I was playing with stopped at one to grab a bite so we could get back on the road quickly.

When the guitar player asked the "lady" (a snuff-queen with a bee-hive hair-do) behind the counter "What have you got that's good?", she answered without missing a beat, "I don't eat none of this sh!t!" :D

Now, here in No. VA, we've got some good choices: The Amphora in Vienna, and Anita's NM style Mexican food, all over the area.

I would of walked out of that place.

Ok, I've got some great (horrific) after gig, late night eatery stories.
So some of you must have some?

Worst of mine was-
We had a regular Fri night gig (Sat morn really) 1am - 3.30am. The ONLY place open near was a bakery. To cut a long story.....
It was staffed (on that shift at least) with ppl that LOOKED like ex-cons who all seemed to have scars & sores on their hands & other places :-/, & the food available looked like large versions of some of those lesions/afflictions....?
I.e. the cherry custard tart looked like a puss covered boil O_o
You can guess some other horrorshows

I eat about an hour before the gig starts and then, five hours later, after the gig, I am STARVED. I've become a food snob, so fast food and Denny's seem gross to me. I greatly prefer food prepared from high quality whole ingredients. I guess I just need to plan to make something at home. The marinading of meat before the gig, then skewering when I get home.....that sounds like a great idea.

I once put together an all day festival show with a bunch of friends bands.
Since we were all headed there early, and coming home late, I brought a BBQ and had everyone supply some food.
We would all eat and drink inbetween sets. This one drummer chick spilled her beer on the pavement and then got on all fours and started licking it up off the gound.

Wait, what were we talking about again?>

I try not to eat too often after gigs, but I used to have a tradition of going through Whataburger to get a couple tacquitos (breakfast tacos) after gigs. I still do on occasion. As a matter of fact, I might hit Whataburger after the gig tonight :)
