Age-related P-bass problem

how about a little clear silicone caulk over the tops of the screws
I would NOT recommend silicone for this (or for most other things people use it for - but that's a whole other thing)
However, REMOVABLE caulk is incredible stuff. It's my "secret weapon" that I've used for years for many non-conventional applications. Dap makes one called Seal & Peal, Red Devil's called Zip Away.
It may do the trick for your bridge issue - just don't apply it right out of the tube - let a blob set up for a few hours, than you can actually shape it with your fingers and apply it.
 
Here's a novel thought... why not just get a Jazz Bass Bridge cover (they aren't that expensive) and.... wait for it... put it on your bass! Some Jazz Bass players do leave them on their basses, and no one will think less of you if you do it, too...;)
