Aguilar 410 Conundrum

I love my DB410 but at 46Kgs it doesn't leave the house a lot. Would I be losing a lot with an SL410x ? I had a pair of SL112s which I found very underwhelming thus the hesitancy on its bigger brother.

46Kgs is a hundred pounds! An Ampeg 8-10 fridge doesn't even top that!

Edit. Never mind. I looked it up and it is 98 pounds. That is ridiculously heavy in this modern age.

I've yet to see/play a neo cab that sounds as good as it's ceramic equivalent. Have you considered going with ceramic 2x 112's (modular)?

To heck with magnets. The CAB must be made of concrete. Again, an 8-10 fridge I once owned was 96 pounds with ceramic magnets in EIGHT speaker and twice the cab.

I don't remember what era it was from but I weighed it on the shipping scale at a local college. 96 pounds.

I don't for a moment dispute your experience, but fortunately the cabs I've had a chance to listen to haven't suffered from using a Neo magnet driver(s). The differences I hear between cabs these days are more often than not the result of many design decisions, with magnet material being probably the least audibly significant.

In my mind, magnet material is just one ingredient among a long list of ingredients that go into a speaker recipe. I think Neo magnets opened up the trade space in many ways (from structural considerations to voicing/performance), but IME have little to no direct audible artifacts that cause me to immediately conclude "they're Neos".

Yes, I have a pair of Berg HD112s and HD210s which are great with a TH500 and DB751 respectively. Just thinking of adding a lightweight 410 to the herd. I really am a ceramics guy, but the holy grail is a neo 410 that sounds like a ceramic 410 and wondered if the SL410x might be the one?

2xDB210. They are an easy carry and if you want more clarity you can stack them vertical.

...and there is no question that different cabs even with the identical drivers can sound different because of many other design aspects. I suspect that in smaller, lightweight cabs the nature of some of the design choices to optimize in those areas concomitantly eats into the trade space for voicing. I do recall some earlier light weight cans I heard that also utilized Neo drivers did not have the fullness or heft to the notes of previous cabs from the same manufacturer.

Looks like 160lbs, perhaps that shipping scale wasn't made for the that kind of weight.

Even a Barefaced 810, which is notoriously lightweight, is 80lbs.

The SL line is much more sonically similar to the GS line than the DB line.

Maybe give the DB212 a try if you like the sonics but not the weight.

Barefaced, Greenboy, Mesa, Genzler, Audiokenisis, etc.

Yeah, I'm thinking the DB more middy tone is going to cut through more in Rock, I have a pair of DB112s also which pretty much equates to a DB212 with two trips to the car.

That's what I was thinking, perhaps even a Fender Neo ?
