Aguilar AG 500SC

I have owned two of them. A lifeless flat nasal sounding amp. IMO. Never had a problem with it but it sounds terrible to me. I prefer a very throaty authoritative sound that comes from a voicing much different to Aguilar though so JMHO.

I have the 2 channel version... Lovin' it so far, I still want a DB750 but this will cure my Aguilar GAS for now - love the tone. I have it paired with a GS212 cab and it is nice but not great, I think it sounds much better with a DB cab... Which I hope to get soon.

The OD channel is the sound I've always wanted in a pedal but never found.

Great amp!

Sorry I can't answer your question, I've only had it for about 3 weeks but Aguilar has a good reputation for quality.

I don't understand the "nasal" comment - mine sure did not sound that way with any of my basses or cabs. I used it with:
Ken Lawrence Brase 5
Sadowsky 5-24
Alleva Coppolo LG-5
Lakland 55-94
Aguilar GS-112 (2)
Accugroove Whappo Jr.
Bergantino HT/EX stack
Ashdown Mini 15
Peavy 115

Sounded good with all except the Peavy - and that cab sucks with everything. I can't get anyone to buy it!

+1. I actually do not own the AG500 for the opposite reason. It has a bit to much low end and not quite enough in your face mids to me... pretty much the opposite of nasal. I also find it a very warm SS head... about as far from sterile as can be.

We all hear things differently though.

I agree with this assessment. It sounds quite warm for solid state and appears to be constructed very, very well. It's just that the sound wasn't there for me. The low end is quite bloomy/pillowy and the mids weren't as punchy as I desire. I am happy with the Shuttle 6.0 that replaced it, though, so far. The AG500 is a good amp, as long as the tone fits your needs.

Hey Guys -
Thanks for all of your honest replies. There is no ONE Amp that will suit everybody, and I understand that. Even those of you that needed a different tone had positive remarks about the build quality, and that is important for us. We went ahead and ordered the 500SC. A neighbor brought his over and ran it through our Avatar 2x12, Aguilar 4x12, and a Music Man 1x15 with a JBL 2226H. I was impressed, seemed like a lot of headroom for an amp rated at 500 Watts. It has a whole different sound than our Demeter HBP-1, which makes for more versatility.
I appreciate all your help. Would be happy to hear more if you want to keep going.
Thanks Again

why did you own two?? then...

GAS will do strange things to a man... First I owned the head through a berg cab, second was a combo that I got from a GC that did not know what it was.... sold it to me for $700 brand new off the floor. I even told the store manager that is was the wrong price ( they had another model on the tag) but he did not care and asked me if I wanted it or not... lol

It's Aguilar.

That's not a question you have to ask.

Seriously.

++++++++++++++++++++2000000000000. Fa sho!!!!

I love my AG500SC. I just got it a couple of months ago and gigged with it a couple of times though I can honestly ask Aguilar...where have you been all my life. I have found the tone that I have been searching for.
