Aguilar AG 700 - 4 Ohm + 8 Ohm cabs - Does anyone run this combination?

Yes, 4 ohm 410 + 8 ohm 210, that's the ideal power distribution, each driver would receive the same amount, 1/6 of 700 watts

Had this same question. Have the TH700 and a 4 ohm DB212 that I love. The 4ohm while not excessively louder than the 8ohm version does have a better heft or slam to the notes and what I like about it when using it in stand alone situations. I do want to add the option of a second cab for the 5-10 outdoor gigs we tend to play. It sounds like a single 8 ohm DB112 would be a better option than an 8 ohm DB212? Would the 8 ohm DB212 be getting severely underpowered in that scenario? Potentially to the point of damaging the speakers?

The 8 ohm cab will be about half as loud as the 4 ohm cab. It might not make the difference you are hoping it would.

Add an 8 ohm SL 210 instead. Even power distribution, plus the versatility of just using the 210 when it's all you need (rehearsals, small gigs). With the money you save you can buy a backup micro-head.

You would want to use an 8 ohm 112 because that way the power handling per driver would be the same and is a natural extension of the 212 in all aspects. It would be identical to a 312.

An 8 ohm cabinet in the OP's situation would be roughly 4.5dB less loud, but would contribute in both low frequency extension as well as overall SPL.
 
I have an Aguilar AG 700 and a 4 ohm Aguilar SL 410X cab. This rig definitely handles most situations, but I have recently been toying with the idea of adding an 8 ohm SL 410X cab for my larger venue and outdoor gigs. The owners manual and Aguilar demo video for the AG 700 says that the amp can run 2.67 ohms when combining a 4 ohm & 8 Ohm cab together with the amp.
I'm just wondering if and TB users run their AG 700 with this ohm combination and what their results were. Do the speakers put out the same volume or does one work harder than the other? Does the amplifier get hot? ect...
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You probably already have your answer but keep in mind that Aguilar customer service is super helpful with all sorts of customer inquiries including this sort of thing

If there is a noticeable difference I could always sell my 4 ohm 410 and just go with two 8 ohm 210's. I should be able to sell the used 410 for about what a new 210 would go for. Especially since I have the cover for it. Then when I re-coop I could add one more 8 ohm 210. That said, from what agedhorse is saying I think I will be more than satisfied with the 4 ohm 410 and 8 ohm 210 combo. I'm going to let this play out another day or so before I make my final decision.

Yes the single 8 ohm 112 would be the better choice, otherwise the 4 ohm cab would see more power from the head, meaning the speakers would be more stressed than the speakers in the 8 ohm cab. With the single 8 ohm 112, all of the speakers (3) would get equal power. Also the benefit of having the 112 higher in the air (stacked on the 212) will help you hear everything better.

The added benefit of having a pair of 210's is you can stack them vertical, which eliminates some of the dispersion problems you get with 410's. Easier to move also plus if one fails, you still have one.

Excellent. First off I get the right cab without having to experiment and a single 12 is quite a bit less expensive than the 212.

Ohm’s Law. A 4 ohm cab draws 2x the current (I=E/R) that an 8 ohm cab does. That translates into twice the power (P=IE) being developed across the 4 ohm load versus the 8 ohm load. More power means more SPL. The power is NOT distributed equally; the cabinets will NOT sound equally loud. The 8 ohm will be noticeably less loud than the 4 ohm. You can’t cheat Ohm’s Law.

The power distribution will be the same PER DRIVER, which is what matters in this application.
 
The effect of having unequal power distribution to drivers in separate cabs, at least in my experience, is the cab getting the lesser end sounds a bit distant as compared to "present" nature of the speaker(s) getting more power. Not saying it's bad because it can be preferable to using just one cab. It just isn't ideal.

So the particular situation that I have described is EXACTLY equivalent to an 8 ohm 210 plus a 4 ohm 410 OR 3 x 8 ohm 210's, each being the same as a 2.67 ohm 610. Each driver receives exactly the same power and each function as an incremental addition.

There's just no getting around the math and physics to leave room for opinion or folklore on this one! :)
 
The 210 cab arrived Friday while I was at work. I didn't get a chance to try the 210 / 410 combination until this afternoon because I had a lot going on this weekend. First impression after my 1/2 hour test run = WOW!! The 210 makes a huge difference in my opinion and I'm very pleased that I went that direction for my second cab choice. Thanks for the suggestion Inara and thanks to those who supported her suggestion. Always a pleasure when agedhorse adds his extensive knowledge to a thread. He's helped me out more than once over the years and I'm very grateful for that. :)
First gig with the whole rig will be at a bar next weekend, but it's a little on the smaller side so I have to make sure I don't rattle the customers fillings loose. ;) The true test will be in 2 weeks when I have an outdoor gig with no PA support. From what I've experienced in the living room test run I think I'll be ok.
