Aguilar AG500 + What cab???

HI

My opinion is that an HS210 sounds amazing with many heads. I use a Sadowsky SA200. Ive even tried my old '67 Bassman thru it. They are amazing 2x10's. Not super heavy, good size, super punch and bottom. Cant beat 'em

Not a bad way to go, especially if you like a slightly modern, very articulate sound. I've been monkeying around with the AG500 all evening and can't decide if I like it best with the HS210, or 2 DB112 cabs. I'm going to try it with 2 HS210 cabs tomorrow morning.

+1... the DB112x2 and HS210x2 would both be wonderful with the AG500. I hear the HS210 as having more low mid push and less deep low end than the DB112's. However, both of those cabs have enough mid response to tighten up and punch up the rather 'loose' sounding AG500, and both have a sort of 'vintage meets modern' sort of vibe... traditional woofer voicing (i.e., a somewhat midrange oriented voicing) but with nice tweeters.

I only have GTG experience with the AG500, and don't own one. My HS210 is also gone. While I'm very impressed with the AG500 and HS210 combination, it's not my personal tone (I try not to just rave about and cram my own personal tone goals down everyone's throat:)). However, for fat, warm, tubey tone, that combination is great, while still staying punchy enough to have good note articulation IMO.

Too bad Ken, those two cabs work really well together. The single DB112 really rounds out the bottom of the AG500 and HS210. It's absolutely the best sound I've been able to get out of my Rob Allen and AC LG5 fretless so far. Very nice for the RA5 as well, and I have a sneaking suspicion that it would have been killer with your LM5.

By the way, you made two very good points earlier - the AG500 is a little loose in the bottom for sure, and I'm worried that it will not have enough bass control to keep two DB112s from getting a bit "boomy" sounding. I'll know after my gig tonight - big band gigs have a way of pointing out deficiencies in a hurry. Also, if you have to move the tone controls very far away from their flat position, the head starts sounding weird. You're far better of on this head cutting the tone controls than boosting them as far as I can tell, especially with the two mid controls.

I bet that sounds great. I have a bit of that vibe with my Bergantino 's' stack. The HT210s, while a bit wider sounding than the HS210, is still tight and punchy, and the HT122s adds BIG low end.

Yup, I imagine an HT210S/HT122 would sure do the job. :eek: I have an HT112ER/EX112ER coming this week and will try them both with the HS210. I have a feeling that the DB112s will be going back to the store, I was pretty disappointed with them on the gig tonight. They sounded muddy. The AG500 acquitted itself pretty well, and it may well become my go to amp.

Like most cabs, the DB112's sound much better with some heads than others. I really dig them with the more low end compressed and low mid punchy Thunderfunk. I can see where the low end (they have the same deep low end as the GS112's) could get a bit sloppy in a mix with the AG500 (which IMO and IME is a VERY picky head regarding cabs, due to the rather strange EQ voicing).

I again totally dig the HS210 or HS410 with the AG500, and really haven't heard that head with any other cab combinations that really spoke to me.

I'll be interested to hear your take on the ER stack. I would think the AG500 would sound quite nice through the original HT112's, but am wondering if the additional low end extension of the ER's will result in a similar experience as the DB112's... a little too much of a good thing down low.

Very cool. For some reason, that scooped tone (the deep bass and the dip in the low and upper mids) that some of us dislike with the 2 x GS112 stack does not seem to be as present with the GS212. That cab has a more even and present mid response. I have a feeling it will sound pretty good with the AG500, especially if low end fatness is more important to you than mid punch and articulation (which I assume is the case, given the Dub in your TB name:smug:)

Hey Munji, I actually did try it, and the GS 212 as well. Both nice cabs, but with two disadvantages for me; more weight than I want to carry, and the GS cabs did not sound brilliant with my fretless basses (killer with fretted though).

Ken, I hear you on the ER cabs. I'm hoping that since the DB 112 worked well under the HS210, that slightly smaller ER cabs will even be a bit tighter. When the ER cabs show up I'll have 2 HS210s, and the HT112ER/EX112ER. Depending on how the various combinations work out, I may then trade for an AE 410, or an AE210/AE112 stack. I also have access to an HT112, so I may give that a run too. Ironically, the smaller the gig, the more low end I can use from the cab configuration.
