While I agree with that completely, I'm at a loss as to what was actually done to give better control.
The blog refers to eliminating the passive tone stack and adding an "active element" to the EQ... If you look at the product page for the DB750 you'll see:

All the controls are +/- 12dB... How are those not active controls already? Am I missing something? What other "active element" was added to make the preamp more versatile?
Regardless... I was having a love affair with my DB750 into a pair of Schroeder 15+L's being pushed by a pair of Darkstars last night... SOOOOOOOOOOO good
Id love to get either a DB750 or DB751 right now but I would need to find someone who would trade a WT800 for it so yea.... I look forward to hearing and seeing the differences between the 2.
I'm not sure what all the changes are in the tone circuit, but I read somewhere that they moved the mid frequency from 400 to 750hz.
Now there are audio samples of the amp on the Aguilar website by Adam Nitti.

Damn man, I was literally just up there on the website and didn't see these. Great! I too am awaiting the review on this new amp. I have been holding off on buying a DB750 in case the 751 is better. Something with more potential of sounding brighter and articulate like the AG500SC would be perfect for me. Hopefully the reviews will start rolling in next week or so.
I did my listening through nice headphones. The clips sounded great (but everything sounds great through those headphones). I agree, it sounds brighter, but it's hard without A/Bing. He was using a FLAT Eq for most of the DI clips, and we don't know if he was using a pre or post eq for the DI. I'm assuming pre-eq. I think we need someone to literally A/B all of these circumstances because listening to the mic'd cab sound, it sounds more indicative of what I would hear from the DB750 and even the DB750 sounds brighter "in comparison" when using the DI out. It has been a while since I used my DI out from my 750, though. I'd like to see how a 751 fares against a 750 with the Tubes Swapped.
I just wish somebody would give me a db750 and a db751......

I just played through the DB751 tonight. It sounds amazing and definitely different than the DB750. The sound felt more present, punchy, and upfront. The 750 always sounded a little 'squishy' to me (for lack of a better term), but I didn't notice anything like that in the 751 - It simply responded better. The tone controls are more flexible and produced a more noticeable change in sound.
I played a DB750 for two years so I'm very familiar with its sound. I think this amp sounds significantly better, in fact, I would venture to say it is the best amp I've ever played through.. Just my opinion of course.
Looks-wise, I agree with most of you in that the 750 looks a little nicer/more boutique. I'm not a fan of the newer control knobs and push-button switches. But, the cost-cutting strategy is understandable.

The 751 shares the same preamp section (EQ) as the AG500, or is basically very similar, except for the tubes. This makes production easier and cheaper for Aguilar.
I think the deep and bright switches do not use the same circuit.
Overall, it's got to be a great amp, as it's an Aguilar and all Aguilar amps are amazing. However, I'm not sure it's as sophisticated as the 750 or the 359. They are trying to cut their costs down in this economy. I think that's a smart strategy, and I'm sure they are retaining their signature sound.
Mind you, all of this is my opinion, not necessarily the facts, but I think it's an educated guess. I just sold my 359 to Rufus and ordered a 750 on closeout. The 359 is the tone monster, but I needed some more headroom. I barely use these amps, most of my gigs either require a small rig or have an amp already there, but there is the occasional gig that needs the big rig, and I play professionally, so got to have the gear for it. Rufus will love the 359, and I can't wait for the 750. My AG500 will probably go up for sale soon, I'm thinking I might grab one of those smaller more lightweight Markbass heads (the Little Mark Tube), but I really need to hear it before I decide on that.

The soundclips sound better than I expected, and DEFINITELY sound a lot different than my DB750. It could be the basses being used, or it could be the fact that few of us have the ability to sound as good as Adam Nitti regardless of the gear being used.

Those clips sound really good and from the descriptions it sounds like I could really get into the 751. The EQ on the 659/750 was the only thing I didn't like about it.
Thanks for posting your impressions. Do you own the amp you were playing? I'd be interested in some more impressions of how the tone of the amp sits in a full band mix. I've never owned a 750, but I completely get the "squishy" reference. I felt that way when I played it in the store, the tone was amazing, just not quite what I was looking for.....but maybe the 751........

No I don't own it. I just played it for a while at bass central yesterday.
IMO, the mids on the amp are only crucial if you don't have that great of an active control on your bass. Someone mentioned the change in frequencies to higher mid frequency....my basses have control over these frequencies onboard, so the 750 suits me fine.
Adam Nitti is an acquaintance of mine. I'm glad to see he's switching over to Aguilar. I never got why he was using the SWR stuff. Adam is a great guy and a sick player. He complimented me on my gig before sitting in. The piano player I play with is the same guy he used when he played at the Visulite in Charlotte. I think Adam was impressed, because he hadn't heard me really play before that. I just couldn't give him a feel for my playing in a lesson, I wasn't in my comfort zone. I'm glad he respects my playing, but I still think he destroys me!

My biggest problem with the 659 was actually the voicing of the bass and deep controls, I couldn't get a really solid punch out of the bottom end -- it was always foggy. So I really wanted a way to boost ~200hz to firm it up. I'd have to hear the 751 to see if that has improved.
