Aguilar DB 751

Got my DB751 on Friday night just in time for my gig on saturday!
Could barely lift my arms up at the gig after carrying the bugger all the way home from one side of the Netherlands to the other using the train network!.......but naturally was worth it!

Freakin awesome is all I need to say! That mid control is damned powerful compared to the 750.

Gotta do some more experimenting as the Bass I'm using at moment needs some mid-tweaking, but ecstatic to be back with Aguilar again (previously owned the DB750, AG500SC).

My DB751 arrived yesterday. Loud, tons of headroom. Like it better than the few 750's I had. Truly does sound great going straight in and flat eq. not much tweaking needed for me. I am using the 412 cab, and do like the Tone Hammer in front of the amp for some dirt. I prefer the Tone Hammer over the BDDI and the VT Bass with this amp.

Both are awesome through a DB810 or 412. As it really opens up the AG500 to its full potential.

Concerning the DB750 / DB751 questions, that everyone is curious about....... The DB751 is a 'refinement' of the DB750, not a completely new amp. I've answered a few P.M.'s already relating to this and here are the only points of difference that I have encountered:

1) Both Amps sound extremely similar, maybe even identical when flat (though much un-needed debating will take place over this I'm sure ;)).
2) When 'used', the Mid-control on the DB751 is extremely effective in making tonal changes, so can turn the amp into a somewhat snarling beast.
3) The fans are quieter and background noise has been reduced.
4) The DB751 is 'slightly' lighter
5) The power-switch is on the front.........:D

For the rest, the amp is still a DB750 in all its glory, so if you need any of the above changes, buy one. But if you have a DB750, there's no panic to update, just enjoy it! :hyper:

Right, I'm getting off my soapbox now! :)

Am absolutely loving the DB751, just gotta experiment again with cabs as the Bergie NV610 doesn't like the low 'B' in my current band very much.................:eek:
Will pick up one or 2 DB cabs in the next week or so for further testing, maybe using the the Bergie for mids/highs and a DB410 for the lows (strange as this may sound).

The DB751 has more warmth and headroom, rightfully so. The AG500 is a bit quicker, if you dig that kind of solid state response. For the sound I like, I am in love with DB751. It is still quick and solid in it's own right. The EQ is more flexible than the 750 was. As mentioned before, the new Mid frequency is powerful when used, yet musical, not mid-honk. Thats my 2 cents. Oh and I play with a pick and a Tone Hammer in front.

I think the DB751 is a perfect amp for anyone who doesn't already own a 750.

For the 750 owner who wants more Eq flexibility I would recommend to get a used Tone Hammer. You'll have lots of mid eq options with that plus overdrive and another DI without having to sell your 750 and buy a new 751.

I was curious about this new amp but I always run my 750 flat and with the tube changes I made, I couldn't be happier.

I have no doubt that the 751 is an awesome and maybe "better" amp, but for a 750 lover, Im happy to own what I think will become a classic in bass amp history.

I think so too. I didn't have my Tone Hammer while owning a 750 though. So I missed the chance to try.

When it comes to the different models Aguilar offers, it all depends on ones ears, and what is ideal for your tone. At the end of the day, I want an amp that inspires me to keep plugging away and translates the tone I hear in my head. And personally, that is a challenge after playing vintage SVT's.:bassist: But I couldn't be happier with my DB751. I look fwd to trying it through a DB810 one day.

I thought I'd be the only one to notice the plasic knobs and the overall looks of the 751.....seems a tad cheaper looking vs the GORGEOUS 750.
Maybe Aguilar will listen and upgrade the cosmetics.
The DB-750 I have sounds SOOOO good, I wouldn't change it for ANYTHING....unless something like a 751 came along that sounded a hair better AND LOOKED better!
But I'm definately NOT swapping based on looks alone.
You would think a company would enhance the appearence of a product if they claimed to have enhanced performance of the product.
just my 2 cents...

Just received my DB 751...

It made my nipples hard. :hyper:

Seriously though...as many have already mentioned, I'm very impressed with the Mids on this thing. The amp is incredibly musical. I set it flat and plugged my pbass in. Rolling the instrument's tone knob back and forth gave me everything I wanted in the tonal spectrum. Tweak the mids a bit and add some gain and it's absolutely perfect rock tone. Capable of some wonderful warmth as well. And for my ears, it's perfectly round. I'm so happy with this head.

I also have the Tone Hammer in front of it. I actually plan on using it with the AGS active when playing live more than not for some aggressive overdrive. I just make sure it's output is adjusted to avoid an extreme volume spike. Spent a lot of time with it today and was LOVING the results.

I'm playing it through a DB 410 and the volume is phenomenal. I'm sure I'll eventually order an 810, but it will really just be more for show than anything else to be honest. Until I start playing stadiums regularly, the 410 moves more than enough air for any situation I'll be in (3,000 seats and under)

i cant agree,

the newer 751 looks every bit as badass and sweet as the original 750. sure it lacks the shinier knobs, but like someone else posted, an easy fix.

Thanks dude. I am only using the DB751 now. The power is amazing. So much, that I called Aguilar to ask where the flux capacitor is on the amp.

Anybody have some plutonium to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need?
