Anybody ever try using 3 Aggie 112 cabs stacked on a gig? Will 2 stacked 112 cabs put out as much volume as 212 cab? Trying to make some rig decisions.

It comes down to what your amp puts out and the cab ohmage.
if your amp does 500W at 4ohm's and the 212 cab is 8 ohms your only getting 250W were 2, 8 ohm 112 cabs in parallel equal 4 ohms.
if your going to run 3 112's you hope the min ohms your amp can take is 2 ohms.

Gary Willis uses three GS112's with an Aguilar DB750.

I have thought about trying that myself.

I currently use a DB750 with either a GS410 or a GS112. I have thought about picking up a couple more GS112's and possibly selling off the GS410 to have a more modular rig.

If you have a head that can do 2.67ohms safely, and don't mind carrying three cabs, that is a KILLER rig format. You can stack all three vertically, and it still isn't stupid tall, and you get all that coupling and extra oomph from the three 12's.

Regarding the 212 versus 2 x 112, they should be pretty close within the same brand (i.e., 2 x GS112 versus the GS212). However, due to tuning, probably slightly different internal volume and I guess the way speakers interact in a single box, there will be some differences in tone. I found the GS212 to be a little more mid present and punchy than the wide and deep GS112 x 2. However, in a mix, you probably wouldn't notice.

I just did a gig recently with both my GS212 and 112 with my WT-550...it pounded loud but suprisingly the 212 was too boomy while the 112 had a better low-mid definition and string balance. I was thinking about selling my 212 for another GS112....they sound more balanced IMO...

ALthough I don't understand the physics involved here, Marco at Aguilar told me that 2 112's will sound better than a 212 due to the 112's being two separate boxes which he says won't allow for soundwaves cancelling each other as I guess can happen with the 2 speakers in 1 box.

I used to do that regularly.. 3 GS112s stacked... Once did 4 stacked @ a private party gig, but as you can see below it looked ridiculous.
So i went with 2x2..... I actually liked the 2x2 format .. Some people say it is not theoretically correct to do that.. and line array is better... I dont care. i liked the 2x2 config more

Years ago I had a BadEnd 2x15.. And it was divided internally into two enclosures.. each speaker in that cab had its own compartment.. I will say it was the smoothest and nicest 2x15 that i have ever played.. SVT 810s are divided too.. but they have 2 to a compartment x4
