Aguilar Sl410 vs Sl115?

Hey TB!

I'm looking at options to replace my current super heavy Hughes and Kettner Bass force XXL 300w single 15. This thing sounds lovely with electric and double bass, so I'm looking for a rig that can do both and give me plenty of booty.

I'm thinking of the Sl410 or SL 115 due to:
- reputable tone
- weight
-versatility

I've tried the single SL112 and wasn't a huge fan of one alone, two being fine but not the single cab solution I'm after.

Any real world gigging experience across these to help me with the decision? I really am a fan of the 15 presence over more mid focused tones.

I've tried the SL212 and it was fantastic with quite a kick. The 410 will be noticeably heavier if that's a consideration. The 410 will have more focused sound and will be louder. If you like the sound of the 115 and you felt it was loud enough than I'd go with that as it also weighs less. But, I'd highly recommend trying the 212 if you can as it splits the difference between the 10's and the 15's sound. And, it has 2 drivers.

I sure like my sl115’s. I think they are tweeterless which I like and won’t surprise you when you hear it. I haven’t gigged with them since I bought them
right before covid shut my music projects down. They are way louder than the markbass 12’s which had been my gigging speakers. I’m not in love with sounds below e flat on the low string of a 5 but it is more than adequate.

How you find using just one 15?

No that’s not the low note issue. I actually find low notes too mid-rangey and not full spectrum enough. Since I play very few of those notes that’s no big thing.

just one of these sounds complete and great on its own-no need to add speakers to get your sound. 2 just sounds like more of the same. I have 50w tube amp so might need both speakers for volume. I gotta think a conventional 300w ss head would get you a bunch of decibels with just one of these speakers. They really do seem hyper efficient. But again, limited real world experience so far.

Nice! Thanks for thinking about it. I'm gonna pair either option with the tonehammer 700, so will be able to put the cab to good work.

Most of my gigs where I bring a rig are small to medium, with the occasional outdoor type setting with PA support. Bigger shows obvs there's usually backline to hitch a ride on

I have a sl410 and I am completely blown away by it. It's the first case I've ever had that I felt that way about. It extremely loud (4ohm) but so crisp and clear. I'm afraid to thrash it on the road so I'm shopping a flight case currently.

The Genzler BA15-3 SLT is a standout 15. Deep punchy without being muddy. The Array drivers give plenty of smooth detail and dispersion without being harsh as some tweeters can be.

the SL212 is the cab to consider.

The guitarists in my band fight over the privilege of carrying it. People are amazed at how easy the schlep is. I tell people to pick it up just to see the look on their face. No more banging your hands on door frames. No more side shuffle through the tight spots.

Im sure the other two cabs are great, but this one slots right in the middle with no compromise.

Can’t help you with the 1-15 which may where you end up, but, as for the 410, how about 2-210s. A lot of your venues you more than likely not need 4-10s. IMO, 410s are awkward and generally heavy relatively speaking.

I like my 410 Aguilar. A lot. I use the epifani on the 410 and the Mesa in the Mesa 15. They just match wattage-wise really well so I like using 2 amps. The 410 is really light, so much so that when considering replacing it I always think “well that’s heavier than the Aguilar…”. The horn is pretty honky on the Aguilar, even turned all the way down it’s definitely there. It’s a little noisy when recording, very slight hiss. The mesa 15 does not do that. I like the wheels but wish it had feet on the side so you could flip it like I do and it could have something better to contact the floor. If space allows at a gig I’d prefer to have each cab on the floor instead of stacked.

Using the SL410 with either AG or TH700 heads. Booth sound great. Plenty of volume and tone. Easy load in and out. Purchased the nylon cover. I also use my Bag End 15’s but you might not like their voicing.. they sound somewhat flat and definitely have a slight mid presence.. which is why they are legendary and sound so great in a band
setting.
Never experienced the SL115 though. It’s got to be great since Aguilar rarely fails.
